    The big round thing on end. See pic.
    I only need that. But peterbilt says I have to buy the whole thing. Oil cooler and core. I say hogwash ! Lol
    I need a big truck salvage yard or ? Between Grant's pass and ontario. I need it yesterday. I have moved and my husbands pete 359 is stuck in idaho. Thieves have stolen a lot already including my husbands ashes. I need the truck home. Does anyone know where I can find the piece. ? I dont have an extra 450$ for an oil cooler I dont need.     Here are the parts associated with that oil cooler.

    I think the part that you are referring to is the actual end of the element. It should be sealed onto the element. That is where the drain plug is for the antifreeze. You will also have to drain the antifreeze and you will need gaskets.

    Your oil cooler should be the same or very similar.

    Ok I got core and realized I forgot gaskets lol. So waiting on them . I'm diving in on a job taken apart by someone else who failed to finish it. Makes it twice as hard since I did not take it apart and have never done this before.
    I will figure it out one way or another. Lol
    Best as I can tell I have to pull whole oil cooler as guy only popped end off.
    There are springs laying around, I assume fit in the holes. I hope. That's where I'm putting them lol. If holes still there after core changed.lol
    I found a manual that says how to pull oil cooler but not how to change core.
    U tube I found nothing that helps. The image above explains where the bracket goes.
    It's been 15 years since I turned a wrench. Never on a big truck ,exception a clutch 10 yrs ago. So hoping I can. I cant seem to find a reliable mechanic. That I can afford.
    If there is a mechanic in ontario oregon that could help. I'm far from rich but can pay some. Thanks

    The oil cooler is pretty straightforward.

    I do think you have to remove the whole cooler because I don't think you can get the bolts out to separate the cooler from the body. If you can get those bolts out then I suppose you could leave the other part bolted to the block.

    The most important thing is to pay attention on the diagram to number 4 5 6 7 and 8. That is where the Springs go. Make sure you have all of those parts and they are assembled in the proper direction and order.

    Make sure that you have gaskets 21 22 32 and the ring seal number 29. If you remove it from the Block you will also need gasket number 15.

    I would probably replace the O-ring number 25 while you are into it. That is for the bypass valve. If you do not have that O-ring or you do not want to wait for it, just put the gaskets and the element in and get going. There are additional O-rings for number 10 and number 36 if you wanted to do a complete job.

    Don't forget to use a paste sealant for the threads where the drain #### or plug is on the end of the cooler.

    Bought the gasket maintenance kit today. Lots of o rings and gaskets and seals in it. Peterbilt in Caldwell found it and had it to me in a couple hours. I'm completely overwhelmed. Between moving, cleaning up, getting house listed and protecting the truck and trying to learn to fix it. I'm disgusted they took my husbands ashes. They took some parts I bought for the truck. I just dont know if I will get her home. I dont think the oil cooler is that hard looking. I'm just lacking confidence In myself, I guess. Too much happening at once. I had a brain injury and it scares me ,that i will miss a step. I just want my truck safe. It is not here. I cant find a knowledgeable and reliable mechanic
    Right now i would give anything to just move it to a secure storage.
    I caught someone leaning over the back end. No clue what they were doing. Took picture called the law. The law was useless. Told me to move it. Picture wasnt clear enough. I should be able to park my truck at my house. A widow in the country is an easy target.
    I'm almost ready to throw in the towel . I know if I do I will regret it.
    Sorry for being a whiner today. I feel defeated over his ashes.
