If you have the flexibility to go anywhere, look at the specific region you think you'd like best and then pick a city that's relatively close to major transportation routes.

I guaratee I have spent more time in Abilene than you, and the ONLY time I've heard jets from the airforce base is when I was literally across the road from the base.
Can't hear them in Tye, can't hear them on the east side of Abilene, can't hear them Buffalo Gap. Shall I continue?Last edited by a moderator: Apr 4, 2020

P.s. Texas is full. Try Nevada.

The prevailing wind around Abilene is from the south. The B-1's usually take off heading South, into the wind. They land coming in over Tye, but have throttled back so you really can't hear them. I have been at the West-A-Go when they took off heading North and they will rattle the windows, but that is rare.

If the OP is set on choosing between the two cities in his first post, I'd vote for Wichita Falls. Far enough from Dallas/Ft. Worth, but big enough to offer up some choice.
gekko1323 Thanks this.
