I saw this phrase in a magazine ad for a "100% O/O company".

Does this depend on whether or not you have your own authority?

If your truck is already plated, is it possible/advantageous to use "theirs"?

As many of you know, I am fully committed to company driving. So I am merely asking out of curiosity. Thanks.

Omg leasing has nothing to do with the plates.

Plates should always be on the truck owner, not the company.

100% owner operator means that there isn't any internal competition to deal with, all the loads from the carrier goes only to the O/O.

Don’t the plates HAVE to belong to the owner of the truck?

No they do not. A wise O/O has his or her own IRP Account. Leave the company... you keep your plates. Lots of leasing companies have plate programs under their IRP account. Leave the company, take off your plate and give it back.

Still confused on how it’s possible to plate any vehicle to anybody other than the owner listed on the title.

Only requires a signed affidavit. That's it.

Lease agreement puts Truck under they’re Authority. Operated by them. Everything’s negotiable paid by either party, reimbursed by either party, whatever is agreed upon. Only exception is 2290 HUT must be paid by Owner of Vehicle. And usually collision, bobtail also. But Public Liability is in the Authority’s name. Any costs can be charged back to operator, any way they want to structure the lease agreement. Some places pay everything, plate, fuel taxes etc. nothing wrong with that. If you leave, you leave the plate with them it’s theirs to assign to any Truck in the fleet. If you paid the whole annual cost of the plate, through deductions, and leave after 6 mos. That’s where they got you. You bought them a plate. Still good for 6 mos. Lots of ways to scam an O/O. They’ve all been tried and done plenty.

Some of the lager carriers insist on you using their plates; you pay for it and, when you leave early, most leases will pay the un-used portion back "IF" they manage to re-assign that plate.

Now most carriers doing this have an assortment of plates to select from when re-assigning a set and you can bet most have trade ins and wrecks to re-assign first so rare is the owner operator who manages to collect anything even though when reading the lease it sounds good.

Mega truckers can be the cheapest guys going 'cept when it comes to lawyers...

That's the largest reason for not doing a lease purchase...it's like going to the casino, the odds favor the house and the house wins every time!
