I’ve been on three today so far. In NC construction and trucking are considered “essential” even with a “stay at home” order from Gov. Cooper. Haven’t slowed down a bit although the owner says it’s coming. He grew up in trucking so I won’t doubt him.

    Mike2633 and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I used to have a local driving job hauling 53ft reefers to grocery stores. It paid by the mile and the stop, but ultimately worked out to $16.50 an hour. Making the same zipping around in a little Sprinter van doesn't seem so bad when I consider that.

Yesterday i delivered to a new Safeway(4 plts display racks) and an apartment complex (2 plts shielded cable). Today i delivered to a large aircraft hanger on a military base(3 plts rubber seals). All three seemed hot and heavy as any construction site pre-lockdown.

Still seeing hella lot of dump trucks on the road.

Also, yesterday, this may or may not be construction related but i saw two truckload carriers deliver to an electrical distributor that i also delivered to.

i am on the east coast.

No matter how bad it gets, there will be those that make it...

The delivery drivers are all hourly employees now Mike as required by the contract with Amazon. The route owner has multiple routes and has only W-2 employees, very similar to FedEx Ground. The main difference from FedEx is Amazon leases the grey vans to the route owners. It is a $16-$18 an hour job in most markets. The semi drivers are also employees working for someone who has at least 5 tractors contracted to Amazon pulling Amazon trailers. Amazon branded day cab semis are actual Amazon employees, but from what I have heard they aren’t high paid drivers.

Well, that might be another idea----to drive tractors for amazon---even if it doesn't pay high, it's better than nothing.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

Dump truck work is down, too. The one quarry I go to in PA outside of philly is down about 50% right now with truck traffic. The job sites are drying up. Some are still going, like housing developments, but with the econ crashing, sales of new homes will crash and all that work will go away too. With cities all across America not arresting criminals, you could look into drug running for the cartels.
