I started drving otr in 2003. did that till May 06, family situation required my presence to be home nightly, so I went and had no trouble getting a local driving job. I did that for 2 years, when I found myself in need of more $$. I was lucky enough to get a job as an aircraft mechanic, (My military background came in handy) and Im making good money.

Now, heres where I may get slammed by a lot of folks. Family situation is great, My wife wants me to do what makes me happy, and that means alot, that she supports this. but I find myself wanting to drive again. I have 3 tickets on my MVR, and 1 class 4 misdemeanor (drinking in public mem. day weekend 2006) .

I said if the right job came along, I would take it. but I have applied to over 21 companies and have only been contacted by 4 companies. offered a job from 1 (Paschall), 1 says there wernt hiring because of slow frieght (Cox) , 1 says to many tickets ( evan though I only applied to companies that said "NO MORE THAN 3 MOVING VIOLATIONS IN 5 YEARS")(Howell Motor frieght) and 1 said My misdemeanor has to be 5 years old (Landspan).

Heres my question, should I actually call some of the other companies to find out why I havent heard anything or why Im not qualified? to follow up on the on-line app, or just let it go, because if they dont call, they aint interested. Its only been a year since I drove, just over 3 for OTR, I applied to Heartland also because they have that Refresher Driver program, but I havent heard from them either.

Im hoping its just they arnt hiring and my just be stock piling apps for when things pick up, other than that Im not sure.

I appied to Cowan a while back, and I did recieve a copy of my DAC, and thats exactly whats on it, 3 tickets and a Misdemeanor.

Any advice would be appreciated, I been giving this a lot of thought, and mabe someone with a bit more wisdom and insight could help me figure it out.

    Thanks in advance :biggrin_25514:

Aircraft mechanic? Better stay with that. You'd be going from $1500 a week to maybe $300 at best. And your wife will be heading to Divorce court, cuz you'll be broke.

There's too many drivers looking for jobs with cleaner records. If you do get hired on I'll bet it will be a bottom feeder company and you will not make anything near what you make now. And what about benefits. Be smart.

    Heres what caught my eye:

The only true wealth that any of us have is 1.friends 2. family 3.the name that we made for ourselves. I know you want to truck. I love truckin...absolutely love it. But only a fool would trade a truck for a good wife. If you have a good wife, either she comes with you, or you run local.

Thanks to all for your advice. Local is my ultimate goal, that and we were thinking about moving to Tn.

I cant transfer in my current job. I was hoping to get in with a Trucking Co. that I could transfer from here to there. then in a ycouple years go local.

Ive applied with all the major Local Co. like Estes, Old Dominion, Southeastern.

Been told since Ive not driven for just over a year, that I would have to go OTR for a while.

I'll always maintain my CDL with H,N&T as a back up if something happens with my current job. But it would be nice to know that the back up will get me somewhere. I just hate the thought of never being in a truck again.

Again thanks for the advice , Guess Ill stick it out till something better comes along.

    Be safe out there.
