The worst truck you have ever driven?

Yeah, they always look nice in the brochure, but really, this is much more what they looked like. Them rusty old "Level-aire" seats that didn't move, a shift lever that got twisted when letting the cab down, wires hanging, gas pedal all worn and bent and more air leaks than a sieve. But we did what we were told, we'd fill it with oil, check the fuel, grab the steering links, just in case, and off you went.

I drove a newer emissions Mack for a friend once to fill in. I’m an owner operator. I have to say, I really disliked how weird it felt and unresponsive. And how quiet it was. I’m old school. I like the feel and the power of preemission trucks with cat motors. That was the day I knew I would never sell my 379.

 

I actually enjoyed driving 5 speed Mack r models with high and low stick as well

 

When I was at Yellow, we had some old Sterling and Volvo daycabs that would throw you around so badly it felt like you were a couple centimeters shorter by the end of the trip. Easily the worst tractors I've driven.

The Mack daycabs at ABF were punishing in their own way, too. The seat cushion wasn't very long, so I felt like I was balancing on the thing most days. That led to some pretty crippling back pain that required time off during flare-ups.

 

Yeah very weird I’m sure it takes time to get used to that stuff but I would rather not. Newer guys will most likely never get to experience old trucks and how responsive they are

 

The worst truck I ever drove hands down was a long nose peterbilt. You know the 379 the big Pete.

Those trucks only had about a 100000 miles on them. They sent me on 3 separate trips with 3 separate trucks. When I got to the end of the 3rd trip I told the dispatcher I'm going to quit if you ever send me out in a piece of crap like that again.

The hood is so long you can't see anything. If you have to turn around You need acres of ground. Forget backing in there's absolutely no maneuverability whatsoever.

That was hands down the most uncomfortable cab that I have ever been in in my entire life. For you to set or release the brakes, you have to lean over. Nothing in the whole cab is set up for comfort or ease. Whoever designed that garbage was seriously mentally challenged. He was probably the same guy that decided to put that goofy clutch pedal in the floor and put the air brake pedal on the floor so dirt can get under it and your brakes won't work right. That sounds like a genius idea...

They all had electrical problems probably because of the leaking windshield. ALL OF THEM. Forget the heat and air conditioning in the bunk, that junk never worked right. Neither did the gauges.

Over all I found them to be a lousy junky uncomfortable truck that had a lot of problems for the low miles on them.

Now if you are a person that likes that kind of a truck that's OK.

It's like my buddy's wife. She so fugly it sends chills down my spine. She has cost him more money and more aggravation and more problems than that guy would have encountered in 10 lifetimes.

I can't imagine how he goes to bed with her at night and wakes up the next morning and sees THAT.. I can't imagine how that guy does not feel like he's in the Groundhog Day movie with Rosie O'donell as Freddy Krueger every day of his life...

So to all the peterbilt people out there I say to you the same as I say to him. Are you happy? I hear him and you say yes right?
