This is exactly why, even in this hellish crisis, i'm being conservative about taking on any side jobs and/or not working too many hours on a side job. IF and when UPSF shuts down, THEN i will go full-tilt on "side" jobs.

I love roasting safety or any suit caught using errors dating years back or invalid FMCSA directives etc.

Most of the time its Suits demanding why are you not at my yard at sun up? Yer late. Quit lagging around you lazy...

ANy time stories like the OP that demands me be gone 34+10 more hours, hell I'll enjoy the second job or third job even more. Log the whole shebang and wait for the office ambulance cardiac support call pending when Safety seets THAT.

I don;t think trucking company owners appreciate losing drivers for 44 hours straight because of a edict from unterlink safety oberboss... oh no... not going to be tolerated there. HA.

I love this. I really do.

Maybe I should run a endless 8 hour workday. Never run out the recap.

They probably just want you to have a fresh clock when you start your shift at the first job to allow for the potential for planning stupidity.

Or avoid the DOT regulation on having to carry a logged hours for all jobs worked against the 70 hour clock.

With that 44 hours I can work under the table for even more income.

The two periods of 0100-0500 AM 34 hour break qualifier expired years ago. Plus we can use it multiple times per week. Safety needs a brand new green book with a bow on it.

    x1Heavy and McUzi Thank this.

I am going to side with the OP. He is upfront with his employer about his second job and is filing all the hours on his ELD. Those are his hours and his logs, and no company should start making up rules like that, assuming he is operating well within the parameters of the existing laws.

On a side note, we did have a driver at Reddaway that had a side job from 2 AM until 5 AM delivering newspapers before he came in on his 7 or 9 start time. He worked anywhere till 8-10 PM before he did it all over again the next morning. He never told anyone and it finally caught up with him when he started taking out guardrails cause he was falling asleep at the wheel.

I got caught one time in coil steel when it's a nice 400 mile overnight to deliver at sunrise.

But a all day wait at the mill after a 3 hour dead head after empty.

Every day. Maybe two hours nap.

I called that dispatcher's boss and told him to find me another dispatcher. Things improved immesely after.
