Many times having my cb on has saved me a lot of time and helped to avoid danger.

 

I pretty much never use my CB, only have it because my company installed it.

Tried to get some useful info in a gridlock traffic situation a while back. I only got people shouting at each other and doing other disruptive things like putting the mic next to their music speakers and leaving it on.

I turned it off, having been promptly reminded of why I never use it.

 

I take it you also carry a cell phone but never turn it on because of all spam calls you get? Because that'd make as much sense.

And make no mistake here: I'm knockin' the logic behind your decision, not you or even the decision itself.

 

Hope you’re getting the real lesson in this situation. Instead of listening to the cb radio take note that older trailers need a more rigorous pretrip inspection and a walk around every time you stop.

things do happen in transit sometimes....rough roads etc...

I think the real lesson is to avail yourself to all the tools in your "toolbox" .....eyes and cb among many others....

. That’s why I mentioned a walk around every time you stop. Experience is only a teacher if you’re taking notes. Maxi cans rust and it’s going to happen again.

 

Agree whole heartedly.....
A visual inspection of my entire outfit takes only 5 minutes, and I do it every time I stop...no exceptions. Keeps you tuned in.

I have to add another 5 or so minutes to check my livestock, but that's just what my job entails..

 

IMHO the walk around is just as important as pretrip. A leisurely pace is best look listen smell (ok maybe the smell thing won’t work with a livestock trailer) all the senses can alert you impending problems.
