Smithfield has shut down. I'm sure this will have a domino effect.

Not sure which trucking companies will be affected...

My friend is a Manager at a DG her sales have tripled per day. Loving her bonus checks . Meanwhile my local grocery has priced food on the self at ridiculous rates our eggs use to be .99 now they're $2.50 dozen. Grocery rates are going up . Yet the truckers are still pulling it cheap because they can i guess ..

Just Sioux Falls for the moment.
Since Smithfield is Chinese owned this is a perfect time for the Federal Government to take over that strategic asset, and send a powerful message at the same time.

This is patently false. Unless by some means they move/branch into a sector that is essential. Or use a loophole. Example. Cellphone companies are essential. Telecomm. Amscotts and pawn stores. Financial inst. Even my local vape shop. Cuz they serve coffee. Food service. So you can't declare you industy essential. You might be able to use a loophole for a catagory that is essential. If that was what you were trying to say. Forgive me.

I believe all. And thats the Carolinas-VA HQ complex of Smithfields. They do Pork products and maybe a bit of molasses etc. Which is really good premium stuff in the day. They were bought by Chinese interests in the 90's when they were understanding to protect the pork supply for their homeland. And here we are.

I still eat the stuff. It's good. However Ive learned to appreciate other sources where we can find them.

    I don't know about cheap.

In the mid 90's My break even cost to run a particular tractor turned out to be just under 1.30 a mile. Paying me nothing. If I got freight for 1.60 I would be pretty happy.

I see posts from time to time alluding to 1.00 a mile freight. Cheap yea? I call it too cheap and abusive. We need something on the order of 3.00 to 5.00 a mile to generate a situation where the trucking will be strong across the board and not rotten through and through.

I'm hauling groceries from a DC to grocery stores and we've been given letters from corporate citing the Patriot act and Trumps declaration stating that as essential employees we must be allowed to travel anywhere anytime regardless of quarantine zones,Sah orders or curfews. Noone has asked for it yet though. ‍

Coronavirus at the shippers will bring things to a halt first.

Already lost a pork processor, a chicken plant and a couple of warehouses.

Probably because all the rest areas are barricaded!

Still, in all of this, I'm wondering if the brokers are still taking 20%?
