Yeah my barn had the meeting that same night people started talking about it. Was told our bill count is only down 10-15% and early estimates are 2-4 road driver furloughs. Even if it's 4 drivers forced from the bottom, I'll be fine because I have more than that many under me. Our TM is very bullish on the economy bouncing back quickly, so he's probably going to do the bare minimum he can get away with.

He’s probably afraid of getting caught with his drawers down if there’s a sudden surge and not enough drivers to cover everything.

Well, despite being laid off on Friday, I do have some good news to share. All of last year I've been fighting tooth an nail to get a pallet jack for the runs that need them. There were just not enough to go around and bringing back 1/2 to 2/3 of a trailer a few hours into my shift where not uncommon.

Well, come Friday the same day I got laid off, I managed to change all of this by getting my very own jack. It didn't cost me a dime. Instead, I went to the back of the lot where everyone kept theirs chained to the fence and over the course of a week I rummaged through all the busted ones that were abandoned over the years.

I scavenged 3 bad jacks and cannibalized them enough to build up one working pallet jack. I have zero mechanical background outside of putting together some shelves for the garage or changing a lawnmower blade. So I was kinda impressed with myself of putting this together.

My Frankenjack as I called it is not the prettiest. But it gets the job done. Happy weekend guys.

Good job on the FrankenJack RR.

Have faith brother, that we'll ALL be back peddling good freight soon. Good drivers, make an impression soon after being hired. You strike me as that kind of hand. Your TM may have union and company rules to follow, but They'll be looking ot bring you back as soon as they can.

Unless they're dumber then a fur tree. I know you've meet a few like that before.

And keep in mind. This was done to us, it was not a standard economic slow down. This was intentional and thought out. The GOVERNMENT shut down our economy, intentionally.

So MANY there, have a vested interest in getting us back to work as soon as possible themselves. So that we don't revolt, too hard, in November at the polls.

I have some thoughts on that, but due to forum rules I’m not allowed to air them here.

Suffice to say, by then I hope we’ll still only be on the 2nd box of liberty.

I was trying NOT to vent too much. Due to the rules. And this not being the proper place.

Been on here for the better part of 8 years. The more I think about the rules the more I appreciate them.

If you ever want to take something and utterly destroy it, wether it's a friendship, a group chatroom, an online forum, or Thanksgiving dinner, all you have to do is inject politics into it. It absolutely works every time.

This forum is the only apolitical medium that I have to discuss things and draw in information that I would normally not be able to get anywhere else. Just good conversations about things that are so esoteric to our industry that everyone else would never understand.

If God forbid this thread/forum implodes because someone inserted politics, I would be unbelievably moody to say the least.

I second this. It's not that I have wild views or anything but I do get tired of seeing one side bash the other side and vise versa so much so I logged off bookface. I'm tired of this whole pandemic thing but I just keep my head down and move on is all we can do and I'm glad I have this as a outlook into something a little less blah.

I got this coworker and we both started one week apart. In the past I mentioned him as #54 and I am #53 one spot above him.

Being stuck on the dock during layoff, we've grown close together as friends. It's to a point where we are always within 15 paces of each other constantly looking out for each other. We probably spend more time talking to each other from one forklift to another than we are moving freight. We must have 1000 things in common.

Over the months we've overheard each other making some remarks to other coworkers that pretty much gave away where we sat politically. We never really said it, but usually a quick glance is enough of a signal that we are about to disagree. So even though we never said it, we absolutely will not under any circumstances talk about politics. And as you said, there is a lot of bitterness and hatred going on right now and there is absolutely no way I am going to ruin a friendship like ours over this.

The whole thing with the shutdown can be turned political and some people do it. I think everyone in power is doing the best they can (or make the best choices they think are right). Cause ultimately, we are all in this together. You think this is bad now? Just wait until next fiscal year. The states are so shut down that many of them aren't collecting any tax revenue. I don't even want to know how many programs will lose funding or how they are going to make this all up.

Knowing where the other stands has lead to better friendships for me than NOT knowing. SOME of my friends, I can have a sound debate with. Others get hysterical and LOUD. Now, I do too. On Occasion.

But, differences can make things better, especially when you know where the other stands and how far to take it.
