How’s the LTL sector doing where you’re at?

Even my TM said $950 a week is more than we will make at $21/hour for a 40 hour week. He insisted we take the unemployment.

Here is the issue guys, I have a strategy. We get 8 weeks of company health insurance. This kicks off the moment we get a hard layoff. It's like a 8 week egg timer similar to our 14 hour clock.

I want to push that 8 weeks out as long as I can so I am not sitting at week 9-12 with my wife falling off the ladder or some stupid thing and we can't pay for treatment.

Keep in mind guys... #1 cause for financial bankruptcy in the US is an unexpected medical bill. As generous as a 8 week safety net is, it's not enough if the government doesn't reopen the economy here soon.

 

Wow LTL guys are getting laid off that’s just sad. You’d never think these big time carriers would do that.

 

LTL is getting hit hard across all the companies with so much closed.

 

Yea I called my good friend who works at FedEx he told me he was good last week I hope he’s still doing ok. He works out of the Hampton Roads,Va location as a P&D driver 7 years with them.

 

Hit or miss over here. I got another 35k big box To Portland. I heard few guys saying there is a few terminals had most bills they ever had. I guess it just depends on area

 

Varies by region and even what your company hauls. The majority of the freight we haul is for manufactures , with many of their plants now shut down. From what I understand, they aren't so much worried about the virus, but the economic decline has reduced the demand for their products (nobody is buying jet skis or golf carts right now).

 

Many carriers did the same thing in '08. Hopefully it won't be worse and won't take as long to recover from it. I'm not going to assume anything, though. A lot of people are very confident that this one will be short lived, but I'm not so sure.

A lot of damage is being done to the whole system, and people are going to be more guarded about spending money when things do open up. And anything involving a crowd? Forget about it.

 

Still hanging on (knock on wood....). i actually had to turn work down last week, because i got sick. Hopefully not the virus, but something else (i hope?). Still getting well over 55 hours as of this writing.

We usually have up to 7-8 people working on inbound. Now we're down to 2. Not sure if they have been laid off? i don't think so.

i managed to pickup 7,500 lbs today. 4 separate shipments.

i'm fairly confident it was hay-fever because i just went straight to bed after work and in the morning i was basically ok. Plus, my nose was running uncontrollably. These, i don't think are symptoms of corona.

 

The overwhelming majority of people that get the "sickness" have mild symptoms and don't even realize they have it. The only way to know for sure is if you get a serology to test for antibodies.

As for your operations tempo, good for you. We were slammed for the last two weeks straight and it literally crashed from 500 inbound to about 100 over the course of a weekend. My guess is the past two weeks was crap that was already ordered and paid for and then people stopped buying.

You might very well have customers casting slow and steady and this contagion won't effect their operational tempo. That's always a realistic option if your company balanced all the right accounts.
