    Speaking of bad appointments/scheduling

I hate these “mom and pop” deliveries.

I got one of these loads leaving out on a Thursday.

I can’t get there until Saturday, but they don’t do weekend receiving.

So two more wasted days until Monday.

Make sure when you call them,
To ask if they have a loading dock or not.

I initially left a message on their voicemail. The office guy just called back, they won’t receive me until Tuesday.

    //facepalm.

General rules I learned about upnorth mom and pops over the years:

As soon as I hang up the phone from outbound, I go right into the shipping office and check on the load. If OB says it hasn't been loaded yet, sometimes they are wrong and it is ready to go. If it's not ready I ask for a trip sheet so I can make the call(s) and touch base with the receiver ASAP. I failed to do this last time and it almost cost me a couple of days.

Thursday at 1230 I accepted a 3 drop mom and pop

    Leavenworth KS
    Tulsa OK
    Sulphur Springs TX

Instead of going to the office right away I burned an hour going to Cub Foods. When I finally got back and called the first stop, I was was told they closed at 1100 Friday. I really had to bust my tail to get there (in an ice storm) and then I had to be at Tulsa by 1600 or wait until Monday. I didn't think I could make it by 1600 so I called Tulsa and asked the forklift driver if he could stay an hour late "because there is other freight on the trailer for a dairy farm in Texas that needs it ASAP and I have been authorized to pay you $100 for your inconvenience."

After a couple of seconds of silence he agreed so I was able to get that freight off Friday at 1700 and head to Texas and make a Saturday delivery and then roll to GP for a Sunday load.

First time I paid a mom and pop to meet me after hours but it was worth it. LOL

Welp, I did my physical today. Back at the hotel having a beer and reading a book by the pool. Orientation proper starts tomorrow.

How many people in orientation with you.
I can't believe their still hiring.
Lot of places have put that on hold.

Only one other that I know of at the moment. I am ###### glad they are however as this represents a substantial raise.

    Right. Lol.
This is the best OTR job in the country.
And second place ain't even close.

You said you made 750 a week at your old job.
    That's one trip here.
They would fire you, if that's all you made here.
That's not even the minimum 2000 miles a week
    We're supposed to do.

Stay out of the drivers lounge, nothing but negativity
From old guys, who been here to long and forgotten
What it's like to put up with all the bull crap that
95 percent of these companies put you through.
For 300 bucks a week less.

You want to make money here.
When outbound calls, you take something.
It all pays good, trust me.
Every day you sit is 300 bucks down the drain.
That's the way I look at it.

You want to hit that 18,19, 2000 a week range.
Go to the northeast or northwest.
I'm not gonna tell you all my secrets.
You have to figure out how to work their system.

    28 Thanks this.

Yep 750-850 after taxes. Which was on an average of 2200 miles a week. Despite me literally begging for more miles. Despite sending in messages confirming the exact time I would be making delivery and begging for a preplan so I wouldnt waste my HOS sitting around.
So yeah, Im looking forward to making more per mile and hopefully getting more miles as well.

    Western flyer Thanks this.
