Going from trailers to straight truck??

Your Class A is a nice license, you can drive anything except motorcycles. Unless you also possess that rating.

The problems begin with my experience in Maryland when Yankees in a ready mix called TBH sat down and told me to my face I was overqualified for ready mix B trucks with my CDLA. The office was itself surrounded by Mack tractors and two and three axle lowboys parked in the rain making a mockery of that claim on their part.

The real problem was my hearing impairment and discrimination despite a history of delivering bulk with a TT Tanker to their plant.

When I emigrated to Arkansas my first job within a week was a ready mix plant, first TT and later learned the ready mix side of it. No issues anywhere. That will come later but outside the scope of the question.

 

You're not really going backwards, if the pay is good and you have job satisfaction.

Nothing wrong in doing what it takes to pay the bills, within reason.

 

Anybody who “truck-shames” you for not driving the biggest rig possible isn’t worth your time.
I don’t drive double, triples, tanker or HazMat, but I have them to keep my options open.
If you get the pay you need at a place close to your house/family you are living the dream, driver.

I say go for it, if it pays the bills and makes you happy. But remember, if you decide to go back to tractor trailer years later, tractor trailer companies may not count that straight truck job as legit experience.

 

be careful. some companies only consider class A experience if you stayed in the class a group.

 

From what I have seen class A experiance counts for both but not the other way
around. At least thats how it is for all the companies around here

 

trust me there are a ton of companies that wont consider class B experience. the experience needed for the last three years. yes i understand people will disagree here. but the very first thing i would let a future company know is. i got 1 year otr and 2 years class b straight truck etc. before i made the jump
