I’ve been an owner operator in the oilfield winch truck oversized loads for 16 years. Moving from oilfield to OTR. Just wondering which is better. I ran under my own authority for a long time in the oilfield, but had a descent customer base. Are these brokers honest about the weekly wages the advertise $5000-$10000 a week.
Lease to or own authority

I thinking you are looking at ads left over from 2018. Why leave the oil field? Aren’t oil prices supposed to go back up soon with the deal struck by OPEC+?
Right now own authority people are extremely happy when they break 5000. Some while paying 30k per year in insurance. Grass isn’t too green right now.Rideandrepair, whoopNride and TallJoe Thank this. -
Wow! The forum has a mission of discouragement today. Lots of novices lurking here hoping to get good news.
The economy is shut down by a decree, there is no money to find anywhere.Western flyer, brian991219, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -

People are out of their normal jobs, but they see on the news how important truckers are and how many trucks are on the road. The light bulb pops into their head. Trucking! YESSSS. It’s recession proof and we can also help the economy. Let’s go truck’n’!
(Not talking about you thread starter, just in general).D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and TallJoe Thank this. -
I’ve been in trucking, just looking at getting in another end of it. I think the economy will be back before the oilfield comes back strong.

I get what you’re saying Mid west. People do the same thing when the oilfield is booming

Just an observation. Late 70s early 80s when Manufacturing was down, many flocked to Texas oil and Florida Building Trades. After that oil fell, manufacturing picked up, Many returned to the Factories. Due to oil prices and Katrina, the some of the Gulfcoast avoided the pitfalls of the Great Recession. Trucking has always filled a gap, usually short term, via tuition paid work programs, Most return ( run) back to their old jobs. Watching all of this, I usually see a trickle down effect. Manufacturing in Michigan affects jobs in In. Ky. Tn. Al. Fl. the effect eventually working it’s way through. This time. Oil and manufacturing are down at the same time. Like a double whammy effect, from two of the biggest drivers of the economy. It’s a different scenario. Not a good one.
