The rules have changed. In Washington State:

    Job search is optional.
On your weekly claim, say “no” on job search: It won’t affect your benefit.
Job search is currently optional as a result of the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” initiative.

    and:
You’ll automatically get the extra $600 per week.
You don’t need to request it – you’ll start seeing those payments as soon as this week.
There’s only one exception: People who receive in-training benefits won’t get it.

So, as long as you're paying for CDL school on your own you're eligible because you don't have to look for work to qualify for benefits.

Wait - drivers are WORKING for $850/wk? I qualify for $1,280/wk in benefits to not work!

yeah in FL they've temp removed the 5 jobs a week search requirement. In FL also the max weekly UE pay out is $275. But if you add the fed's $600. That gives you a grand total of $875 weekly on UE here. So that is more than the $850.00

I wonder if I could accidentally get "laid off." then do the CDL School paid by FL UE. I think the tech college is probably not operating it right now, though.

Right it’s a different subject, not relevant. I guess my point was, all the misinformation and assumptions being floated around aren’t helping. Didn’t mean to add to my own complaint. Lol. I don’t know how the certification process in Michigan is supposed to work? Obviously not many Jobs, and shelter in place orders, just wondering. A phone call is needed, before receiving benefits on a certain day. I wonder if I can use it as a stop gap. Maybe one week per mo. Any idea? I drew it once 26 yrs ago. Everything’s changed.

We have a system called MARVIN, it's just an automated phone system. We also have a website to log into.
In both cases log in, answer about a dozen yes/no questions and click submit. It's done every other week for a two week check. For example if I certify on Monday the 27th, I'll get paid either the 28th or 29th.
The questions are the obvious ones like "Are you still unemployed" and "Did you make any money from ...." where the ... is questions like Pension, Holiday pay, SSI, etc.. Usually they also ask to put in 2 places you applied for, but that's not even asked currently.
It literately takes about 10 minutes to do right now on the website, and most of that time is the website running slow and being stupid because everyone wakes up Monday morning and is looking to get paid by Tuesday. When I log in Monday night it takes 5 minutes.

And yes, you can certify one week as "I worked and don't wish to claim this week" and the other claim the unemployment. As long as you keep certifying, even to not claim anything the next check in date you can always claim a week that there was no work.. I believe there are 52 weeks right now because of the virus, but normally it's 26 weeks before having to reapply.

Don't forget the IRS considers any payments for unemployment etc.taxable income I would suggest having taxes withheld now rather than owing it come tax time. Just my $.02 worth.

Yea, I wish I could. MI only allows to change the status once per year. And I chose not to during the GM strike in October as I wanted all the money then. Oh well, that's what saving accounts are for. Probably better anyway as I do have the discipline to not spend the money until tax time and I'm making interest on it, not the feds.
