I’m at a new company. This is the first company I’ve worked for that doesn’t want drivers to scale loads. At my other two companies it was basically a requirement for every load over 25,000lbs. Those companies provided me with the cat scale app to facilitate complying with transportation law.
90% of loads at my new company are over 35,000lbs, and I would say 80% over 40,000lbs. I spoke with management, because it’s company policy that dispatch decides whether or not they’ll pay to scale each load. I have to ask for permission on each load which is really annoying, and worse when dispatch says no. They didn’t want me to scale a load the other day, but I didn’t feel good about it. It was only about 42,000lbs but sure enough it was 400lbs over on the trailer. I don’t want to pay out of my own pocket to weigh THEIR loads. I’ve spoken with management, but they are adamant.
are there any consequences for the carrier if I get an overweight fine? I’m assuming no.

Good heavens, the novice of youth. Glad you asked. 1st of all, find a different company, that overweight fine is your baby, and they know it. 2nd, so many good companies looking for drivers, UPS for heavens sake. Scaling a load is part of the business, and a companies refusal to do so is a bad sign.

I second that opinion, pack your bags and find a decent company, the one you're with now will screw you over sooner or later if they won't even pay for a scale.

I agree with everyone above. If they're screwing you on scales, it will be your check before you know it. There are too many decent companies out there, you don't deserve to put up with that garbage.

Tell them they don't scale it, you don't pull it.
