How do you hold on the gear to be able to tighten the nut to 184 ft lbs on a fuel pump for the DD15? I see Detroit sells a special tool for this, but is there something else I can use instead? I was reading that someone used a large pipe wrench.
How to hold (fuel pump) gear to tighten nut?

Can you put it into the fuel pump first? Just an idea. I’ve never done one.

Go find a spanner wrench that is just a shade to small to slip around the gear... Then grind the prongs of the spanner to fit into the gear teeth.

I found this thread, and while it’s not exactly for single gears someone did mention using rope, which should work if it’s wrapped in and around the teeth or even on the three bolts on this particular fuel pump gear and then tighten down the rope on something very stable.

If there are meshing teeth visible stuff a shop rag between the two gears and let that bind the gears to stop engine from turning torque nut then reverse engine and remove rag.
PE_T Thanks this.
