I really would like to train with owner operator if they have and extra rig

I probably would teach you to load and unload for free if it wasn’t for the liability, as I am slightly bored currently. Originally I was going to buy a carhauler and then learn how to haul cars. Instead I went the company driver route for several years before I bought my rig and I am glad I did it this way. Most Piggyback drivers I know really like that line of work. If it weren’t for flying all the time I may have gone that route.

what part of the country you in

company driver I'm up to my head with that stuff it's about the company not the driver

Knowing what I know about carhaul if I were you I would find a company that runs contract freight near or thru my house since I like to be home regular. All of the ones I know of train new car haulers. I would pick a company instead of an owner operator, because the pay and benefits “usually” will be better. You will make more money working for the “right” company until the day you decide if you want to still own a rig. There is a huge difference in carhaulers pay, but the jobs are out there (NORMAL TIMES BUT NOT CURRENTLY) in certain parts of the country that motivated, experienced carhaulers make $2,000 or better every week. You will also hear a few drivers on this forum speak about how terrible the rates are and how little they make. These few people who complain are not working for the companies or geographical locations I am thinking of. A little research calling the companies that fit your geographic search, will tell you very quickly how much their experienced carhaulers make in normal times. Most of them are laid off currently, but it will come back one day(hopefully soon).
(HYPOTHETICALLY) If a carhauler on this forum tells you he could make more at Sysco or Pepsi than he does at his carhaul job normally, (this is the job, company or even terminal of otherwise good companies) to stay away from because this is not the job I speak of. You probably won’t be able to convince him that the entire industry isn’t the same as his job.(HYPOTHETICALLY)Last edited: Apr 23, 2020
Lite bug, Kawinige01, Doealex and 3 others Thank this. -
As stated Car hauling is all about geographical location, If you can find a company that gets too or thru your area you will be one happy camper. Staying out for weeks on end is an option too, But it works best when you can run thru the house consistently with loads. This isn't like dry freight or flatbed, it a whole different ball game, Much better if you ask me, it why I made the decision to return after being gone for so long.
As for training, Banker said it best find you a company job and learn the ropes, again it not like general freight, dispatching is different along with terminals, You actually get to know the hands that feed you. Build a great relationship and you will prosper in this industry.Banker Thanks this. -
