    Another piece of advice

When you go from seeing spray off the tires to none at all or a lot less slow the F down esp if empty and windy too. If it was a nice day to begin with either at the end of winter or beginning of fall there's a good chance the salt shaker hasn't been through yet. Pull over get out and have a look. If ice is starting to build on the sides of the wagon it's likely on the road as well

Unntarped Hay and pallets both pull like a sponge soaking up all the wind. It’s a work out.
The air sponge effect actually makes it feel heavier than it is.
Pull some heavy blue pallets out of Chep in SA up to Mclane in Temple or Houston. Light but heavy at the same time.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Bull racks can be a real handful that's the worst I've ever pulled in the Wind. Like a big parachute

Slide tandems back it will help in the wind. And don't panic and over compensate. That's when you'll end up the wrong way up. Let push you a bit and keep steady pressure on the wheel, no sudden movements.

And if u pulling flatbed and its real windy . Keep an eye on ur tarps. U will quickly find out how good ur tarp job is when that wind starts blowing from the side. If u have any sharp edges underneath that didnt get padded the wind will tear a hole. And when u have extra wind , a small hole will turn into a big hole very fast. And it is no fun trying to patch a tarp in 40+ mph wind and raining or snowing. Speaking from experience here.

Here is a little trick, when Mr Wind leans on you and wants to overthrow you say from the left. You allow her to drift right in a deliberate slow manner with just a touch of right wheel. Emphasis on just a touch of it.

What you are doing is trading a few feet of pavement over a long time to let the wind gust quit it. Reducing the load against your rig until the next one.

Im usually heavy most of the time so when I see another rig just getting a workout and tired etc, I'll get him out of the wind for a while. Its not ideal but helps from time to time.

From flying, you can look ahead into the distance for tree branches, flags, grass, tumbleweed and so on. Even signs and such. They all have a bit of behavior in strong wind long before you get there. You can almost see what you are about to drive into.

    Six9GS and Brettj3876 Thank this.

That and keeping your drivers door unlocked. Once or twice Ive had to go out onto the fuel tank before she went over off the bridge. If there is going to be a problem it's the bridge.

    That leads to another thought.

PA Turnpike Allegheny Tunnel east bound. You come out of there and WHAM.... worse when on ice and snow facing that downgrade. But you are all swole and comfy until you come out of that tube and there it blows. Might just take you out right there as well.
