Mentoring (training) is entirely voluntary. If a mentor doesn't feel safe, no one will force them to continue in that role.

    RogerThat72 and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Hopefully both wear masks when inside of the truck. I will only ride in training with someone using a mask.

I finally put in an application a couple days ago and got called the next day, did the phone interview at the same time and scheduled orientation for the 18th. I was shocked it was that fast, and a little concerned seeing as they seem to be hiring out of this particular DC quite often.

    Onboarding update:
Showed up Friday morning for temperature taking and answering covid19 questions before allowed in the driver training room. Noticed our class of 5 was down to 4, the missing guy was local to Red Bluff so figured he bailed.

Walked towards the security check point to the sound of Queen's We are the champions! Escorted in the building and told to have a seat, lead instructor came in and said time to do the Walmart cheer and he needed all Walmart drivers to stand. Then pointed at us 4 and said that means you 4! His way of saying we passed everything.

Sat around for an hour having a BS session about welcome to the club, etc. Mind you, I wanted to jet out of there as I had a 7 hour drive home and had been gone since Sunday am. Then safety manager came in and started a power point presentation about accident reporting, etc.

About an hour into that the 5th driver appeared and we were told he had just passed everything this morning. Welcomed him to the team.

Finally, around 11am we wrapped up and I grabbed a box lunch to go. Made it home 8.5 hours later, flat tire, exhausted and tired but satisfied that I can put a check mark next to competion of onboarding phase 1!

Next step, head out Monday to the motel near Grandview, WA distribution center. Phase 2 starts there 8am Tuesday morning. Should be more classroom time, taking our DOT physicals, signing up for benefits, etc. Come home Thursday evening.

Followed by phase 3 which should be out with a driver mentor, told this should last about a week. Then out on my own .

Will update as things allow next week.
