My first car was '65 Ford Fairlane... but it was just a plain, unremarkable four-door with a 170 cu. in. six and a Cruise-O-Matic transmission. :( It's only redeeming feature was it cost me $50... although I had to do the brakes.

    Mine was green.

I vaguely recall it did; had to do all four. I want to say $300, but I learned a lot too. #1 rule when doing drum brakes: one at a time. ;)

That Galaxie 500 was my wife’s Grandmothers first new car. It has 78,000 on it. In her Grandmothers later years my wife would go to her house and fire it up and drive her around on errands in it. In 2000 we repainted it for her after my wife got hit in it. The day we finished it up she called her and told her we are on the way with her new shiney car. An hour later we got there and found her passed away on her couch. Needless to say that car is a priceless heirloom with infinite sentimental value.

The GTX , has a spare 440, trans and front clip to go with her . Looks like be asking 20k for her . The Fury , has a brand new Crate engine (360) when parked , looks like they will be asking 10k for her.

When they are in that kind of shape that price is reasonable and justifiable. But when you see people asking 10-20 grand for rusty non-running been sitting in dirt for 30 plus years stuff that looks like some of my junk. That is criminal. Rarity means nothing if it is scrap and slowly on the verge of dissenagrating back into the earth.
Back in 2012 We used my Kenworth Yellow ‘65 GTO to take out a bank loan. They appraised it at $120,000 and loaned us the 110,000 we needed. Wow! I thought. I had paid $75 bucks for it in 1986. Put around $30,000 in it from ‘86 to’97 to restore it. And in reality its only worth $15-$20,000 because nothing is original in it except the firewall back on the body, the trunk lid, the frame, side windows and back glass. No numbers match. I got a ‘66 engine, ‘70 trans, and a ‘65 rear housing from an olds cutlass. Also of course the paint color gets you kicked out of the originality country club too.

When we got the silver one in years ago (late 80s) still had the factory fan belts and plug wires . Sadly those had to be replaced to make it reliable , was Dad’s car after all. Did not want him broke down on the side of the road . But other then tune up items she is just as she left the factory . Hard to find 50 year old cars that was always garage kept. Sitting in her is like having a time machine !
