I am looking for any guidance possible about minority opportunities in owning dump trucks. I live in Maryland but any information will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

In Maryland? Well... you are going to find that phone book and look up paving, land scaping etc. Those are the dumptrucks. Then there is the state highways contracts for gravel and so on among other things. If you know where Finksburg sits on Route 140 to the north of town is a gravel and blacktop shipper. Go there and see whose DOT numbers or company owners on those dump trucks and see for yourself. If there are any minorities driving and owning them.
As a rule, whatever you are physically does not matter. If you have a dumptruck you own and a business and so on around it, off you go. It's late already get going.
Good luck!
As a side note, Maryland has a sort of way of making a big deal over minorities. In a manner of speaking it does not matter at all. Anyone can live in America in any state being whatever they are and have a oppertunity to make a living doing whatever. A minority or not does not matter at all. Not in trucking. black, white, green, brown, red whatever. It simply does not matter.
UNLESS one is involved in a state agency concerned with somehow getting tax cuts or other special consideration to minority owners within city hall downtown. Or possibly hiring only vets or disadvantaged persons who otherwise might not be hireable without state incentatives at that level.goldfinger1971 Thanks this. -

My Baltimore terminal manage is black so I asked him for you. Said to talk to the SBA - that they absolutely do have programs. He also mentioned if you can get a woman on board in some sort of management role it can greatly benefit your ability to get grants and whatnot.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -

Are you a Certified DBE already? if not get right on that It’s that time of year already
Office of Minority Business
dbe contract comprise a percentage of all federally funded projects.
DBE contracts are public information ask around find out who is getting these contracts in your area and they are usually looking for independent trucks to subhaul for them you will need to be legit and have your payroll and insurance correct for what your doing. Good luckSuavisJ Thanks this. -
Ya the big federal jobs have to do so much sub contracting with minority owned businesses.......it has nothing to do with who works their. Just who is listed on paper as the owner.
Crap if you ask me..... stand on your own 2 feet not on the color or your skin.
I know who guy who listed his wife as owner of a couple of his trucks. And would lease the rest of his trucks to her company. When it was advantageous to them. And the rest of us would be off that job .........Last edited: May 1, 2020
