    It's a lie.
    1. They don't hire without experience ie. finite labour pool
    2. That finite labour pool is shrinking due to driver retirement

A problem? How to fill seats when you have nobody to hire? Not a problem, a product of design actually, to access the hidden labour pool known as Poland, India, Romania.

Based on what I see on the roads, most of the truckers these days have next to no experience.

IMO, the labour pool is infinite and one of the reasons for that is, the truck manufacturers pandering to industry needs and building trucks these days that anyone can drive.
All they have to do is press the throttle with their foot and computers do the rest.

The highly experienced labour pool is shrinking, I'll give you that, laying way for cheap labour to replace them, no matter where those people come from.

When I started driving, lots of trucks still had 2 stick transmissions and it was a benefit to know how to drive one.
These days you have P D N R to work with, choose the function you wish, release brake, hold steering wheel, press down on throttle, try not to hit anything.

With impossible standards like that, it's no wonder it's hard to find drivers.

My thought's exactly! when I was a new driver it took me 4 months after getting my licence to land a driving job. My first one was driving in the oil patch zero log books, 10-24hr work day's ( yes no ######## I worked a month straight of 16-24 hour days) barrel tanked left me with out a job with 8 months driving experience. Then it took another 3 months of banging down every trucking companies door in Saskatoon before I found a company that'd "give me a shot" and that was with a spotless driving record and no criminal history. It's ridiculous! Can't get experience if no one will hire you.
I have no problem with the government bringing in British, French, and Germen drivers hell even Russian drivers, they at lest give a #### and tend to be great drivers, but the other sorts....... nothing like sitting waiting for the guy at the pump to pull forward only to find he went inside to grab a shower and LEFT HIS TRUCK AT THE PUMP! (moose jaw flying J)

That would get you a lesson in the Texas Two-Step back in the day. Maybe we should bring that back?
