One of those either bit me or stung me on my upper lip just under my nose, in a full Rambo type ambush at this warehouse's guard shack in New Jersey. Then flew off.

My face felt like it was on fire for about 4 hours.

My trainee laughed like a drunken monkey for about the same amount of time.

It was green where that one in the picture is orange.

Upinsmoke and Wasted Thyme Thank this.

The bees are learning to adapt. Asian giant hornets have a slightly lower temperature tolerance than bees. The bees will actually lure the lone scouts into the hives and then smoother it and cook it to death. Thus preventing it from travelling back to tell its buddies where the bee colony is.

We already have a hornet like this, the Tarantula Hawk in the southwest. They are called that because they land on a tarantula, sting it, and lay their eggs in the zombie. The hatchlings then eat the tarantula alive.

It has the most painful sting of anything in the US, and is the state insect of New Mexico.

Not making any of that up...Tarantula hawk - Wikipedia

And I have numerous photos of them in the wild, including one stinging a tarantula.

Been reading about them coming to invade since I was in Elementary school.. in the early 70s.

We just need to arm ourselves with a badminton racquet in each hand and dice em up.
    Theyll get the message.

Upinsmoke, speedyk and AModelCat Thank this.
