Search the threads on here for Amazon. From the sounds of all of them Amazon is only willing to pay cheap rates.

No, however it is hard to find an insurance carrier that will write a policy without having at least one truck declared because once they write the policy and file the MCS-90 with the FMCSA (required for your MC authority to go active) they are legally bound to cover any truck that displays your US DOT number. Most insurance companies want to know what they are insuring before writing the policy.

That said, it will take at least 21-24 days from when you filed your OP-1 to start the authority process for the FMCSA to grant it so, I typically tell clients to wait until day 15 to have their insurance filed so they are not paying the premium for time they will not be able to do anything.

Unsolicited advice, but you are doing things backwards. After applying for your authority is not the time to decide if Amazon is right for you, nor is it the time to decide what type of truck to purchase. These are all things that should have been decided in your business plan long before applying for authority as the type of freight, type/model of truck and even where you operate can have dramatic effects on the cost of insurance and other variables in any trucking operation. Just my free advice, take it for what you paid for it.
