The less your expenses cost you the faster you can save money. The difference between brand new rookie pay and 1-2 year driver pay is minimal. But the diffeence in the miles you can run between newbie and 1-2 years experience is where you will see the money. Just don't job hop. There is always someone with a higher Cents Per Mile CPM rate than you are getting now. Some company could pay you 99 CPM and you would still be broke if you get no miles at the higher rate. Don't hop around companies for a small bump in pay. If it's tolerable at a place, stay there while you do research until you know EXACTLY where you want to move and EXACTLY what you are walking into because drivers there tell you what they are getting. I've had much bigger pay raises changing companies than I ever did by moving up the company pay scale. The key is to not hope for improvement, but to find the improvement. Recruiters lie, don't hope you will find the one that is telling the truth. Find the drivers with a better situation and then work there.

So it doesn't matter where your DL is from? For example, a driver with a SD license can work anywhere without having to change the DL to wherever he's working?

Thank you all for the advice , I've done th math now and it IS alot cheaper to just stay in a decent hotel for the 2-4 days I may have off a month as opposed to paying rent Utilities and extra elsewhere .
Now I'm hunting for places that give decent rates in general and let truckers park there as well . Looks like some of these extended stay places have really reasonable rates but idk if they'd let me park and take up a bunch of spaces at once . -
Darpen Thanks this.

Well yes u could live out here. I go home about once every 3 months . It may seem fun at first living onthe road . It sure gets old fast . All the truckstops are the same after while

Yep, i got rid of my apartment and threw all my crap into a storage unit. For home time i stayed at my brothers house for a few days here and there. With no rent or a mortgage youll have some money saved up to enjoy a hotel if you wanted. Grind your 1st year or 2 then leave with your experience to get a good position with a smaller company.
dwells40 Thanks this. -
If I was lucky enough to still be single and no kids, I'd have a piece of land and a steel building with a 1bd apt in it. Cheap enough and land always appreciates.
As of now I just pay the bills for everyone else to live here while Im home 8 days/mo.
