    INTRASTATE****************************

    Hello guys,

May be a long shot here but figured I asked.

My family has been in the Junkyard/scrapping business for nearly 25 years .
We have always talked about the idea of doing car hauling as there are many Car shippers here in Newark NJ .

My question is , is there good money doing intrastate car hauling? ( like start out in NJ , and end up back home same day ) .I would like to be home daily .

I am asking because we have the opportunity to acquire a 9 car hauler for a good price but wanted to see if local hauls are worth it ? or is OTR where the cash flow is ? I understand the startup costs etc already have my own DOT/MC for our company .

We also have a 3 car hauler to pick up cars from auctions with our dually

    I appreciate your input

    thanks

Are you talking new car deliveries? If so you can try Tribeca or United Road, they both have offices down neck. You would lease on and use their mc and insurance. They have plenty of day cabs who do local NJ NY PA runs. Although right now with the Covid, it don't look like many cars are moving right now. Every lot by the port is full with vehicles. I guess our economy stopped, but the cars on ships kept coming.

Maybe some other posters can provide additional info.

If its used cars that has been discussed here in the past, I would think you would have to reach out to your contacts/dealers and find out what the market is like.

It would be more or so auction pickups . There are many car exporters next to us who ship car internationally . I also tried looking into new car deliveries from port to dealerships .

    I appreciate the input

It's a heavily saturated market with high expenses with fuel, insurance and tolls. There is money to be made if you know what you are doing.
