This June I am moving to Wilmington, NC, do any of you have info, comments, or general input on the current job market in the Wilmington area? And yes, I know that things have been turbulent lately, and that's putting it mildly. Ideally, I'd like to find a position hauling containers out of the Wilmington Port. I have 6 years experience, HazMat, tankers, TWIC Card, no tickets, no accidents. Thanks.

Hauling out of the port is great if you want to struggle to make $25,000 /yr. Do not fall for the owner op garbage at the port either, youll surely go bankrupt.

Local jobs suck, we just are not in the lanes. We are at the end of the line. The closest major truck stop is 100 miles away (Latta).

The local school Cape Fear Comm Coll keeps putting out drivers, keeping supply and demand on the wrong side.

Your best bet is to find a good long haul company that allows you to take the truck home.

Okay, I won't argue with the voice of experience. Can you recommend outfits that are hiring OTR, Hazmat-Tankers? My experience is with tankers. I've hauled retail fuel (gravity flow) and pneumatics.

Is the Wilmington port worse than the Norfolk port?

The Wilmington port couldn’t be worse than the port in Hampton roads

These are some of the tanker outfits I see...I’m sure there’s more. Robbie D Wood, Hilco, Dana Transport, Dillon Logistics and Puryear Tank Lines.

There are several tanker outfits. Tidewater, hauling acid, methanol and caustic. Wake up at midnight to go load, make 40k. My best year with them was 50k, OTR which has slacked off out of the Rocky Point Term.
Superior/Quality carriers, struggle to get out of town, maybe wait a week for your turn.
Florida Rock hauls methanol, dont know to much about them, mostly out and back i think, with a weekly min. pay
Robbie D wood. They wanted me to lease a truck, walked out.
Jade is probably the best potential for top pay (if you can get on), they are slow now. You are going to have to spend at least 5 years there before they start to pay off. As a new hire, your going to run up and down 95 in N and S carolina, rough route, very busy. Big daily miles, turned a 760mi day with an unload and load stuck in there. I left after 4 months no work from late Dec-April.
Looking to get my long haul position back with Kenan/Transport Service. Was there 4 years, liked the runs, time alotted, loved my dispatcher, just had bad TM in Charlotte. Looking to work out of Nitro or Kingsport. Looking to run 16-17 days with 4 off.

    Hope it helps.

    Yes, it helps, THANKS!
Also, do you ( or anyone) know much about Dillion Logistics? They have a terminal in the area.

Asphalt. They constantly, constantly, have ads up on CL, which is not a good sign for me.

Not sure what you want, but like I said, if you want to make good money your better off with Long Haul outfit and get off the very busy East Coast. Just my opinion, I dont like running local, same roads etc.
