hey guys. ok so ive been on elogs since day 1. i bought a glider but i still am on elog. its just easier. my issue is it froze on me. no biggie ill have the shop look at it soon. but my problem is i never learnt to do paper properly. so saturday 5-9-20 i started at 9pm in chicago. i arrived in indianapolis at 2am cst. i then went straight back to chicago. was done by 7am cst. 5-10-20. i was lost on how to proceed. do i just end 5-9-20 log book and count my hours and put i ended in indy.and started in indy on 5-10-20 .or do i put i started in chicago both days because its 1 load.

You log the same way your just hand writing everything instead of pushing buttons on screen. If you started in Chicago you write that down and write pre trip inspection at 9pm. Then drive to Indy get their at 2am. Write down your in Indy and what every your doing, drop and hook and inspection, or unload and reload. Then drive back to Chicago.

When you drive pass midnight all you do when you stop next time is add up your total hour driving for the day. You don't mark anything or log anything special at midnight. When you stopped at 2am in Indy you should have updated your paper logs. So you would have add hours on the other day log plus fill out a new log for the day to show your in Indy at 2am. That's kinda pain a lots of paperwork vs just pushing buttons on ELD. Because it will automatically start a new log for you at midnight.

It is not a logging requirement, but if your logbooks have them, you should fill it out. It is usually not referring to the end of day, rather end of trip, so if you turn around in Indy, that was your destination.
