Sounds like a good deal so far! I’m looking forward to transferring. Do you have split days off? Or 2 together?

Depends some bids are split some aren’t.I’ve been trucking for 26 years and so far I have to say this is a very good deal when you factor in the pension, free health insurance and 9 personal days plus vacation.

Another rumor is coming up now lol. Is it true the rookies or bottom of seniority are stuck being jockeys?

Not necessarily true. There's a lot of senior drivers that actually want the yard jockey position. Usually it's already bidded on before someone on the bottom of the board even gets a chance to bid on it.

Now if you're a new hiree, usually you start off on the jockey position for a week or two just to learn how to do it. I don't know how many of you Safeway drivers are transferring to ACME, but there's only a certain amount of jockeys running per shift. So I would imagine some of you guys might skip the jockey position and go straight to driving.

Ok that’s more along my train of thought on the whole ordeal. We have some extra salty shop stewards that start making up nonsense. The “oh we talked to..... while we were up there......”. There’s only a handful of us going, maybe 5. But they are doing this really odd try it for 30 days thing, which no one knows how it will work or how many might do that. But they’re providing hotel room for 30 days, $25 per diem, and 1k if you do the 30 days if you don’t stay afterwards.

Not totally true but most likely cause most guys pick the road and all that’s left is yard.I do a split.

Does Acme hire owner operators? When you go by there it seems like, they have a lot of sleeper trucks, mixed in with the company trucks. I have a friend that lives out in the Denver area, looking for work.

Unfortunately we do right now hopefully they can hire enough drivers where we won’t need them. They just brought them back a couple of months ago.

    Bumping an old thread

how our things going into 2024… I’m in the queue to get hired and I’m taking my driver test next week

what can I expect as a bottom driver? Is there a top out pay scale or is 30.29 the pay until the next contract?
