Hey here's a crazy thought ...how about you drive defensively and be aware of your surroundings and don't get yourself into a situation that will cause a major accident. Individuals that are worried about accidents usually are the one's driving like crazy. Cutting cars off, cutting trucks off, speeding in heavy traffic, speeding in bad weather, distracted by phones, tablets, etc. I've know of an O/O loose his entire company over 1 accident in which he rear ended and killed a passenger because he was speeding in heavy traffic watching porn on his tablet.

First, don't know you in terms if you ever owned any business but that alone would potentially leave every O/O out of business. You might be surprised to hear this we are not always are the cause the accident sometimes its those small little bugs that come and around us like jack ##### to cut us off. Then you would have to fight off the wolves and prove you are innocent even if the police cited the other driver they can still take you to court and win happens more often you might think.

Lastly how dare you say no porn that's a given right to use all matter of the day my god hopefully my other half never sees this post or I am screwed. But serious ya I have heard drivers do that while driving I wonder if its like death from asphyxiation with the rush. Wouldn't know most rush I have ever had was jumping out a perfectly good airplane the most amazing rush I think you could ever have. I have tried mixing it up with snowboarding thats even more dangerous and fun.

I have been an owner operator for the last 6 years, I've worked in the dump business and currently I'm running a flatbed. The majority of accidents that get O/O in a lot of trouble and potentially sued are accidents in which the driver was at fault. Yes I understand that it's hard for a CDL driver to get a fair shake but driving aggressively and operating the semi like a car or without disregard are the main factors in O/O losing their livelihood. Those are just facts. I do not drive aggressively and to be honest I have never once thought that I was going to lose my house over an accident in my semi

I think the issue is your comments are asinine. You're not furthering the conversation, instead youre saying "only dangerous drivers ask about protecting assets durrrr" and now waving your im experienced johnson around. Do you actually have something helpful to add because this thread is about protecting your assets as an O/O, not for you to toot your own horn.

To get back on topic. I found out that having your spouse on the title could stop a seizure because they couldn't get at her interest in the property. Lots of ideas to ask a lawyer about so far but I think its going to be very state dependent.

Never say never. You will lose everything by local jury decision. See Werner ordered to pay $40.5 million in damages in fatal 2017 crash

I was sued when my son had a fatal accident with one of my plumbing service vans, my house was protected because although she is not on the mortgage, I put my wife on the deed well before this happened, fast forward 18 years, my wife was in a fatal accident, my house was protected against suit because my name was on the deed. I am in NY so your state may differ but I would check into that.
