I would like to know what kind of driving work you can do if I'm receiving an ssi check... would being a school bus relief driver be out of the question? Or would I be limited to work that pays cash? Any help would be appreciated... thank you

Totally illegal to work if your receiving SSI, doubt anyone can give you info without getting banned.

    Edit:

I stand corrected, thank you @Chinatown for clearing that up

    What type Social Security?
Disability might be a problem, but regular Social Security based on age, you can work.

I'm 27yrs of age and on regular ssi... I don't know if there is driving work for people on ssi... I'm trying to find out what kinda driving work I can get... If I can find work driving a box truck that pays in cash or working on a farm driving trucks used for livestock transport, farm supplies etc. and operating equipment that'll work too...

Why are you on SSI? If you're in good enough shape to work go get a job and be a contributor to society. There's a lot of people that aren't able to work and can't get SSI disability. I know of some that have a lot of pride and feel they can still chug along and work for what they have. 27 years old and you're living off the backs of others. What a crock. I hope you get busted for fraud.

Don't call me a fraud... I'm looking at driving jobs that pay cash or pay using payroll... If I was able to work a 35hr plus job I would... imagine going into every store/building and workplace and getting made fun of or laughed at because they didn't want you near them much less want you working for/with them...

I don't think you are a fraud, that's a bit harsh. Not many companies pay cash, I suppose there's a job delivering Wendy's hamburgers now, maybe you could be a O/O delivery service for cash, home delivery will be huge. Far as SSI, you can only earn so much, and SSI is usually all over that, and creates more problems than it's worth. I say, rather than work, especially if you are limited, adjust your lifestyle. I'm on regular SS, and turning 65, they automatically take out $144.50 every month. Might not sound like a lot, but when I only get $1200/ month, that's a big chunk. $1050/month is not a lot live on these days. Good luck.

Why would people make fun of you? Most people I know don't make fun of people working or contributing to society. What I can't stand are the leeches of society that haven't contributed and yet are taking from those who do. There are plenty of jobs out there where you work with a few guys or alone if you don't want to be around a lot of people. 27 years old and you're able bodied obviously if you're looking at farm work. There are always jobs on farms and you can get off of ssi and earn your way.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong I'm working my ft job yet and until all the covid crap started was working a part time job too. Both are non driving jobs. The part time job got eliminated which sucks because I liked the extra money. I'm one of the few working at my ft place which doesn't set well with me when I'm making less than the over 100 people that are laid off. I work to make money and when someone sits on their ### doing nothing and makes more than workers I hate the government even more. It doesn't take a genius to figure out people like me are paying for those to sit at home.
I don't have a problem with someone who has a job and is paying in or has worked all their life and paid in working for cash. They've earned their way. At 27 you haven't paid anything in and don't want to either but you want to collect. It's no wonder social security is broke.

You cannot be on regular SSI at 27 years old. If you have a disability, then you are receiving a disability payment. You need to contact SSA, or an attorney who specializes in Social Security to get a clear answer.

The part that makes you seem sketchy is "paid in cash." That's like saying under the table. If you're well enough to work and the pay you make reduces your benefit. That's legally how it's supposed to work. Trucking, usually, is more than a 35hr a week job. But yes, if you are healthy enough to earn a living as a trucker. Then you shouldn't receive SSI.

My fiance is on SSI and she'd love to be working instead.
