I have the RM 740. It works well and I like it, but RM is no longer updating maps or the database. If/when this GPS diss I'll be getting the Garmin 770, or whatever just plain GPS is their best. Garmin updates their devices, RM does for maybe 2 years or so then they stop.

A Rand McNalley 7.5 is what I use but I double check anything I don't know about in the truckers atlas.

No of course not. Google maps will send you through some really bad areas since its not designed with big rigs in mind. It will have you making U-turns on public roads and cutting through tiny neighborhoods or impossible areas. Only use Google maps for satellite view never navigation

I use an RM but thinking about getting a garmin next, but what I always suggest to all new drivers is my set up. I have my magnetic phone mount just above my GPS, and between the two and double checking route before I start driving, I havnt had an issue. Double checking route I think is the most important part because GPS can always freeze up and I've had times when mysterious network lag makes google maps load slowly,
I also still use a dry erase marker to write down points on my windshild so I don't need to have either of them turned on. but thats because I have developed this strange love of having no screen of any sort turned on infront of my eyes. I can remember a time when I could navigate with no GPS, and i've been working to use my mind again at every chance. I turn 40 this year and i'm convinced that dementia develops from lack of mind usage.

Yep. Either exercise the mind or it will atrophy like everything else.
