Should be in the front couple of pages. Not every restriction and whatever is in there. You can't make a book big enough. Call your destination if you're unsure.

 

What a lot of people forget the time between the printing and selling of Atlas',the Next Exit, and other books of this nature. While these books maybe current at the of time the printing, they are not comprehensive or totally accurate. States can and do change what routes are truck legal and businesses close down or don't want to be in a certain book.

What they say is absolutely correct. In the front of the atlas, there are a few pages that address low clearance and road restrictions. Once you think you have your trip planned out, refer to these pages and make sure your route is not included on these pages. As time goes on, you will learn where you can and can't go.

Rule of thumb, if you can stay on the interstate, do so. Like spinpsychle said, call your destination. They talk to drivers all the time and give them directions to their facility. So they know where you can and can't go. And here's one for you.... you can call the "Street Department" of the town or city.

Obviously, you can get online. Use Google or Yahoo maps for routes and aerial views of your destination. Find the most direct route from an interstate, verify it with your destination, and go. But ALWAYS watch out for construction and clearance signs.

Tip for Chicago: Get the low clearance over pass map. It's a fold out and shows EVERY low overpass in the town in red yellow and green dots! About $2.99 for the last one I bought! When you are about 100 miles from Chicago start looking at the truck stops, but about the best time to get one is when they stock the map shelves! It's printed by American Map.
