Even if I could go back to driving, I'm not sure I would want to drive being paid under the table. For a driver with a CDL, it makes an employment gap that has the chance to blow up on you. SSI is not a lot of money to start with anyway. If I could work why not just work and leave the SSI alone. It just seems silly to me to do otherwise.

    Congrats! ;)

Do double hyphenated words get extra points in scrabble if there was such a thing in scrabble? :)

When I was much younger I worked with a fellow who most would consider disabled. I don't know the proper term, but he was an adult with basically the mind of a child. #### good worker. I loved when me an him worked together. He worked better then my other so called "normal" co-workers. He loved working in the truck when we had one to unload. That dude loved coming to work. I don't think he needed to, as I'm pretty sure he was getting either SSI or SSD. I know he lived with his parents, as he couldn't live on his own. I never had to yell at him for slacking, or not pulling his weight. As I said before...#### good worker.

No real relation to this quote or this thread, but it did remind of me him, so eh...I decided to bore you all. ;)

This post needs to be closed... the people here didn't answer my first 2 questions and instead focused on me asking what kinda driving job I could get... I did ask these 2 things: would I be able to be a school bus relief driver if I received ssi and what kind of work I should look into while receiving ssi... btw I have quite a few mental issues that are wrong with me that allowed me to even collect a check...

If you want to drive a school bus you will need a class B CDL and a school bus endorsement and a passenger endorsement. If you don't have those things you cannot drive a school Bus. As for working while receiving SSI, I believe the opinion here is that is either illegal or at the very least, unethical.

By the way, you might get better answers if you give a little more info.

    1) you "might" be able to get a school bus driving job, most school districts here in my state, they work a morning shift and an afternoon shift.

some of those drivers also get to take students on field trips, earning them more money.

there may be or may NOT be part time driving work available in YOUR AREA, obviously we DO NOT KNOW where you live, or what's available.

you still have to get a class B CDL, with the school bus endorsement. you will need to take a road test, and pretty much the ONLY WAY that happens is, that a school bus transport company HIRES YOU, trains you, and provides the bus for the road test.

    2) what kind of work to look for while on SSI..??

ANY kind of job, hopefully with less than 20 hours a week, so as to NOT mess too much with your monthly SSI checks.

a LOT was explained to you, in many previous postings. just maybe not exactly pointed or directed towards you, but in "general terms", so it was there.

    This is from SS website.
    Working and SSDI Benefits

Generally, SSDI recipients can't start doing what's considered "substantial gainful activity" (SGA) and continue to receive disability benefits. In a nutshell, doing SGA means you are working and making more than $1,260 per month in 2020 (or $2,110 if you're blind). There are exceptions to this rule, however. For SSDI recipients, there is a trial work period during which you can make more than the SGA amount without losing your benefits.

For a nine-month trial work period, SSDI recipients are entitled to test their ability to work and continue to receive full benefits regardless of whether they make more than the SGA amount. For 2020, the SSA considers any month where a person has a monthly income of more than $910 a trial work month. If you are self-employed, any month where you work more than 80 hours can be considered a trial work month.

Once you have completed the nine-month trial work period, for a period of 36 months, you can still receive SSDI for any month where your earnings fall below the SGA level. This is called the extended period of eligibility. In other words, if you earn less than $1,260 in any month, you will get benefits, but if you earn more than $1,260 in any month, you won't get disability benefits for that month.

Following your trial work period, if your SSDI payments have stopped because your income is substantial, the SSA gives you five years during which your benefits can be reinstated if you again stop working because of your disability. During the five-year period, the SSA will not require you to file a new disability application to get benefits. This is called expedited reinstatement.

First of all having “quite a few mental issues “ does not work well with a School bus load Of screaming kids.
Second you can work any job on SSI but if your successful at said job you will lose the SSI because you no longer need it.
Third working under the table for cash While receiving SSI benefits is fraud and flat out illegal.
Forth you can have part time employment and maintain your SSI up to a certain dollar amount.
You would have to contact your local SSI office and find out what that number is.
A good supplemental job for someone on SSI might be something like a part time bar tender when bars and restaurants open back up from the Covid disaster.
