I don't know about you but a personal observation from anybody that could end your career and put your family on the street , causes me concern.
Most doctors I have seen in the last 10 years , are not from this country and I can barely understand there broken english , with a degree from the university of BFE hanging on the wall also causes me concern.

oh you mean you don't believe its the piece of paper that makes them smart, oh another few months and you'll get a knock on the door for such thoughts against the communist party.

there is a class of people now who get their pieces of paper, either degrees or money and believe its the paper that makes them smart. look at bill gates, he didnt finish college, he comes from a rich family,
"but he knows every thing about vaccines and what we all should be injected with"
and if you dont think he is so smart than you are the one who's stupid, because rich people are like modern art, if you think its stupid than you must be the stupid one, because modern art is understood by the smart people, and they have pieces of paper that prove how smart they are.

personally I'm all for a complete and total ban on obese drivers (BMI over 30) and onerous restrictions on overweight drivers (BMI over 25) because that just means less competition for drivers like me. Nothing to do with safety, just a matter of using govt' regulations to artificially be tightening the supply of drivers and squeezing companies so our wages go up faster for those of us who remain.

Not only will your wage not go up, but the G will be happy to tax you another 15% to pay for those additional folks now placed on "disability".

We'll find a way to exclude them, I'm sure.

Of course my wage will go up! 86% of drivers are obese... An 86% reduction in labor supply overnight will drive wages up 2x, probably 3x *guaranteed* and that'll last for years and years until if, they can train lower weight replacements.

The first guy that I had train me for a couple weeks was morbidly obese. I’m talking between 500 and 600 pounds and I scratched my head wondering how he could safely drive a truck. He couldn’t sit in the passenger seat while training me because it’s gut was so big I couldn’t see out the mirror. He had to sit on the sleeper bunk. When he drove, he had to put the seat all the way down to the floor allowing him to barely see over the dash for his gut to fit between the seat and the steering wheel. I don’t know where he hid his piss bottles, but he went to two to three days at a time without even getting off the truck because it wore him out. He became a trainer because he was physically unable to do the job. He wouldn’t get out when I first started to guide me backing in or anything. It would wear him out for the entire day just walk in and out of a truck stop. Now myself, I’ve always been physically fit. I do a 2 to 4 mile walk every day that I can when I’m on my downtime. But I’m still getting a bit pudgy out here after two years.

my point is, I don’t know how a lot of truck drivers pass their physicals. I know a guy who worked out at the gym every day, basically an amateur bodybuilder but because he had open heart surgery when he was six years old they give him hell each year and make him get a whole cardiac work up before they’ll issue medical card. This guy is in better shape than 99.99% of all truck drivers on the road. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

If you did that it could cause there to be a real driver shortage. That could open the door for the megas to be able to recruit foreign drivers that they would pay even less than they pay entry level drivers now.

it'd hafta be combined w/ an immigration moratorium or at least citizenship/permanent residency requirements to drive a truck, w/ existing immigrants grandfathered in.

Don't worry, the government is VERY good at creating shortages ;)

That's truly sad. That man will probably die of a heart attack one day. Hopefully he gets out of trucking before it *literally* kills him.

It's a terrible lifestyle out there. The government, "safety advocates", and NIMBYs have helped make it that way imho. Trucking would never be "great", but it doesn't hafta be this bad. Even fit folks tend to fatten up. It's crazy.

It's the government. They don't want *too much* of a shortage. They listen to lobbyists. Easier politically and economically to pick on 1% of drivers who are cardiac cases than the 86% are obese. Then they still get to claim they're "looking out for safety by monitoring possible heart attacks waiting to happen". ;)
