Yep. Ever hear of the HUGE recall Volvo had on their steering shafts? Hate to be the guy who found that problem the hard way.

It all depends how old is your equipment and how well you aquatinted to it . I dont do it daily , but keep an eye on something unusual

I log in 7 minute pre-trip and 7 minute post-trip every day. How often do I actually do it? Less than 50% of the time. I wack the tires and glance for leaks. Just a quick overview, general inspection when walking around the truck/trailer. And if I know I'll be driving at night, I check all the lights. I check the fluids maybe a couple times a week (bull guard). I do a complete inspection every 10 days or so when I'm back in the yard, just so I can get repairs done while off-duty... this includes brake pads and secondary wear on tires.

I'm assigned a truck and trailer. I DON'T do drop and hook. I am confident if I ever do get inspected. In the past, I didn't have this confidency and would always stress when coming up to a station. I know my truck and trailer.

Oh, I do a tug test everytime I'm away from the truck. I don't trust you guys...

I didn't do it one time in the rain. I pulled out slowly, surprised to see a guy run out from underneath the trailer!

I pull the same wagon all the time. If I drop it to get some work or pm done on the truck, I check everything on the wagon as soon as I hook back up.

Did a "walk around" everytime I got out. Like rachi sez, no need to pull the brake drums or drop the oil pan, if something isn't, leaking, hissing, or hanging, get going already,:director:
Years ago, tube tires and loose lugs ( yep, used to give those lugs half a turn every couple days), leaf springs, wedge brakes, excessive oil leaks ( which, at the time, was no big deal) had to be watched more carefully. Today, air ride, tubeless tires, oil seals with space shuttle technology, self adjusting brakes, it really isn't quite the same.

Just picked up a pre loaded trailer with 3 FLAT TIRES!!!.......YES........3. Here I sit at the DC waiting for road service. A big thank you to the last douchebag that pulled this trailer. Also, thanks to the yard dog that moved it twice without noticing. Both tires on the RR axle....... RR outside. Kind hard to miss. From some of the replies on this thread, a couple of you would have just backed under it and headed on down the road, blissfully ignorant of the situation!
