I recently was part of a process where a recent Grad of a local school was trying to get a job. I was able to find a regional OO that had an opening. The authority holder wanted one thing from the driver. They wanted a copy of the driver's terms of probation, at least 10 days notice of an appointment and an OK to have direct contact with the PO in case of an emergency. The guy so far is doing OK.

I doubt there will be any tricks. No need to use deception when all you got to do is refuse to hire. Just answer what is asked and no more. I would also recommend you have all the legal paperwork handy. This means your actual sentence on paper, the parole/probation paperwork and anything issued by the PO.

There are many drivers, Local, Regional, and OTR that have felony convictions. I personally know several. One I speak to several times a month goes into Canada. With felonies, the major thing that a carrier will look at its customer base, time since the conviction, and what was the crime. I don't care if it has been 40 years if you have a felony conviction for something related to terrorism you are not going to get TWIC cards or Hazmat, these restrictions can limit your choices. I know a guy that was convicted of making a terrorist threat to blow up a county courthouse back around 1995. He gave up trying about 2 years after he got out of prison.
This is why it is essential to try to in as general as you can tell us what you did and when. The guy I spoke of got drunk one day and told a state trooper after being stopped there would be no trial because once he got out he was going to blow up the courthouse. Just a drunken statement. Still did some time over it. Then lost his license over the DUI. -

I’d try Western Express, hell man you can even have my truck, as long as they give me one that can idle all night long hehe
