Nope, just have to remove back box of trans. Main box can stay in.

I drive a 1999 Mack E7-457 8 speed manual (Eaton fuller). So pretty much, it’s an 8 speed, so in order to go to 5th gear, I would have to flick the range selector up before changing gears. Now, this sound only happens, of course, when driving. And it is the only gear that makes this noise. And also, only when up shifting it will make this noise. I’m guessing it could be a faulty range selector. There’s times where I’ll take out the gear from 4th and the “clicking” set sound of the range selector will delay.
So for an easier understanding, it happens like this
1. 1st gear 2nd 3rd
2.4th
3. Range selector up
4. Take out gear
5. Scraping/Grinding sound
6. Range selector makes the “set clicking” sound
7. 5th gear

I’m a total noob at this so any info will be appreciated, thank you

Yep, synchronizer going out, I had to also change the range selector switch in the old 2002 international, it would grind on splitting either high or low range.
