Does your automatic transmission ever quit on you right when you're coming out of a stop at a light?

You suppose to have one way ore another "manual" option where truck will stay in a gear , had that in Volvo Ishift, in Kenworth Ultrashift , and Freightshaker Eaton.... if you know your truck have problems selecting gear, why not drive in manual till you will gain speed????
    What they teaching people nowadays...

I get great fuel mileage,too... until I hit that headwind around Sioux Falls on 90 and it blasts me for 1100 miles continuously.
My 8.0 - 8.2 at that point is usually 6.8 by the time I get to Spokane.
You know the drill out there.
It's like a free pass at the County Fair.
Buckle up and hold on. Hope the seats don't come unhinged.
A bit better this time of year normally... but not so far.

Yeah the engine and rear ends make big difference in MPG and idle time. So people can put a auto shift in a truck and still not get MPG. I hear people say they don't like auto shift transmission and most time it seem like it's Eaton transmissions. They don't have the GPS hill locations, so they shift funny on hills and the ability to sense a load. So they can change shift points as needed. I know on the DT-12 transmission you do drive it a little different then manual. The engine brake going downhill at 2200 RPMs sounds a little crazy at first.

I drove an autoshift for a little while when 84 was at dealer getting serviced. The truck was a brand new t880 Eaton ultrashift plus with a paccar mx13, 42k lbs of milk going to harkins farm I counted 29 shifts. It's a up down, up down type of hill.... but I shift the manual less then half as much. Shifting constantly on a hill does NOT equate to keeping your speed up or fuel efficiency.

Your right, because from my understanding the Eaton ultrashift plus. Does not talk to the engine and does not have GPS location of hills. The Detroit DT-12 transmission has the GPS like location of hills and it can talk to the Detroit engines. It can control the engine some or every how they do it. So on a big pull the transmission does not shift up and down. It know it's has big pulls and lets the engine RPMs go higher vs shifting because I cannot pull the next lower gear. My understanding is it can also sense the load. So you go up empty or light and it will shift gears. You go up the next day full loaded it won't shift gears. Say you going uphill with heave load, the transmission know this and it can even turn on the engine brake between gear to slow the engine down faster so I can get that next gear without losing a lot of speed. So I can keep pulling.

I hear the new eat Eaton can talk to a Cummins IXS engine and I guess basically do the same thing. But just regular Eaton auto shift can do those things. That what I think nobody like them because it does not work very good.

I much rather have a manual anyways, shifting gives me something to do and its somewhat of a challenge. Shifting takes skill and an autoshift dumbs down the job. The driver has much less control with the autoshift.

    That’s the point.

Designing a truck to where any seat warming steering wheel holding reject that can’t spell his own name can drive it only leads to the inevitable conclusion of that type being what companies hire.

Then if my boss trades my truck at some point, I will be applying with bugman milk hauling. I know the owner from my days as a reciever and I see him at the plant sometimes. He told me he will NEVER buy an autoshift and says real truckers know how to shift. He says a manual is a tool to weed out the bad drivers. I have to say I agree with him. If your driving a truck that grosses as high as 104k and you cant shift, there is something wrong with that picture.
