I did a road test with the Cypress evaluator. Didn’t do anything wrong. Saw an ‘A’ by my name in his open notebook later. My grade maybe? Did a competent straight line back the first time. Other student couldn’t do it in 10 attempts. I’m not kidding.

    I know. It’s an impressive record. :p

    You’re a good dude.

Like the working girls say,”Good service isn’t cheap. Cheap service isn’t good.”

Okay look...if you have no experience driving, your best bet is Stevens. Because you you will learn a LOT. The pay is bottom-of-the-barrel, but your goal is to LEARN. Think of it as your second semester of learning, and getting PAID for it. Suck it up for 8-12 months, then say "sayonara". They have a top-notch training and safety department, plus they are very flexible when it comes to home-time. Just let them know 2 weeks in advance where you want to go and generally they will accommodate you. Like I said, the pay is CRAP, but you are getting paid to LEARN. That is your immediate goal. Another thing, they don't screw around when it comes to HOS, so you won't have to worry about being forced to drive unlawfully, or even if you're just fatigued.

Call them again and keep calling them back until you get an answer or they threaten you with a restraining order.

I did 2.5 years with them as a newbie and made good money. All their tractors are automatics and none are older than 3 years.

Yeah, that’s probably going to be the plan. One of my driving school instructors drove for them for 15 years. He said the training was the best.

Pay would be adequate, even if bottom of the barrel. Our house has been paid off for 18 years, and I recently paid off my truck. So at least there wouldn’t much financial stress on top of the stress of learning a new career.

Will do. The recruiter left me the most upbeat voicemail, and I called her back four days in a row, but got her voicemail each time. That was a few weeks ago.

Dang. Rejected by Swift and Trans Am. It must be really bad out there!

At least the Western Express recruiter didn't ask me any Miss Teen USA judge’s question like the Melton recruiter did.

“And lastly, tell me what you want out of a trucking company and your driving career” (in a bubbly female Melton recruiter voice).

“Well, I think U.S. Americans don't have Rand McNally Motor Carriers maps, such as.”

W.E. recruiter just asked me if I minded being sold for a pack of cigarettes during orientation.
