I don't know if LA used the fancy one or not. They didn't go into much detail on if LA used the fancy trim or not for the richer part of the city LOL I know there trucks now are all pretty decked out.

I wish I could post some pictures of my cities garbage truck fleet from 20 years ago before "privatization" but I don't feel right about it because I don't own the pictures. To bad too.

Here is the link though I think I can post that.
    Rob Jamieson
This was our fleet before "privatization" we had good people who lived in the city and were vested in it's success. We had some good machines too, Republic Services who we have now for some made up budgetary reason, doesn't hold a candle to our in house service, but the previous mayor turned on the damage machine and went through the town with a 40 ton wrecking ball and ruined everything. But it was the citizens fault for voting her in for 20 years.

I got in trouble on my cities facebook page for trying to post the link to this picture. This was one of our units before "privatization" the crock was a lot of the people who worked for the city also lived in the city and had a vested interest in making sure things were done right. Legend has it these guys never missed a pick up and scored 90% in solid waste removal and didn't have any of the fancy automated equipment that does nothing but break down, like our contractor has today.

This was just one of the 6 trucks the city owned. They had 3 Ford L8000s and 3 Sterlings. The Fords were all Leach 2R2 packers and the Sterlings were all Loadmaster Excel units although one of the packers looks like it may have been a Loadmaster 400 demolition packer. The fleet they had was not the prettiest, but they had good machines and good people and always got the job done. Stupid to sell off assets you already own and then become a slave to some corporation that will do nothing but jerk you around and screw you in the end. City Hall as far as I and a lot of my other citizens are concerned got it wrong on this one.

Photo Credit Goes to Rob Jamison who has spent 30 years of his life dedicated to public service in North East, Ohio, this photo dates back to 2000-2001.

Any time a politician talks about outsourcing, what they mean is that a corporation will get more money for less service, paying enployees less while giving a cut to that politician. It is never an improvement for the gen pop.

I haven't driven an 8000, but the 9000 is one of best cabs I've been in, layout-wise. Great visibility and comfortable and everything right there within reach.

People who like our out sourced service act like we’re saving money, but I keep asking how much is being saved and what has the city done with the savings that have been realized? Funny I never get an answer to those two questions. I can tell you this though our roads, streets, storm sewers and taxes certainly haven’t seen a lowering or any improvement at all due to these “savings”.

What’s funny is people were so appalled at the thought of paying maybe an extra $48.00 a year for garbage, but they will literally trip over them selves running as fast as they can to the voting booths to vote up any and all school levies that comes through which do nothing but raise my monthly mortgage payments by $200.00 a month. Our garbage budget isn’t even a million dollars a year. Our schools budget is 35million a year, the city’s population is 16,000 people the entire city out side of the schools runs on 4 million a year, yet the schools need $35million a year? Something seems out of wack here.
