How long is the Detroit One-Box supposed to last?

Unfortunately they eventually need replacing, if you got 800k miles out of the original one, you got your money's worth.

Now it's time to pony up $9k dollars.

 

I’m currently dealing on a new cascadia. $7700 for ew4 warranty, $7100 for tc4 warranty. Covered to 960000 km. Or 576000 miles. Good investment in my books.

 

800,000 out of a Detroit one box is rare. You did well. Your next 9,000 should be spent on a quality job getting rid of it for good.

 

I use to think that too.....till I did it. Worst thing I’ve ever done.

I had One Box go bad at about 630,000 miles back when I had my own truck. It was going to be $12,000 to replace with test they already had into my truck. Some else was just talking about $19,000 to replace once on a different forum the other day.

Today they have way to clean the entire emissions system. I wonder if doing that at every 250,000 miles would save the One Box. Diesel Force cleaning is a foam that clean all the soot out. Their is a fuel additive that also burns more of the soot so it never get in the emissions system. The company Pittsburgh Power is going that way of cleaning the emissions system and keeping it working like it was new. They seem to be having success go that way

 

I highly doubt that Diesel Force stuff is going to do anything for the DPF. Soot normally accumulates and is catalyzed off during a regen. Its the ASH that accumulates over time and is incombustible. It resembles pencil lead and that is the reason the DPF needs to be cleaned/replaced. The ash takes away capacity from the DPF and that's why regenerations are required more frequently towards the end of the DPF's service life.

 

The Diesel Force cleaning would clean all the sensors and soot in the engine. Not sure how much cleaning it has on the DPF. The One Box seems to fail because the DOC filter go bad and can't be replaced. That's what happened to mine in a 2011 truck.

Pittsburgh Power has a fuel additive that seem to actually work.
