I tip if the porter greets me and is friendly and the shower is clean. But I need a smile and greet. I need above and beyond to tip that particular job. I will also tip on holidays. I did not tip where I am today because it smelled like poo and I gagged when I saw someone's nail clippings on the floor. Gross. Why tip that? I didnt eat the restaurant after seeing mold in the bathroom either. I went to walmart and cooked dinner myself.

After giving it some thought, I'll probably start leaving change on the counter. Maybe even a buck if I see the porter doing his/her job. The "####" they have to deal with makes me empathetic.

Who told you that you were going to make good money on tips? That person lied to you. I've never given it any thought, tipping a porter. Nobody I know has tipped a porter. I would quit and become waitress if you're relying on tips. If they need to fill positions and can't get anyone at a low pay rate, they'll raise it... unfortunately, sounds like you got swindled/tricked. I feel for you though... bags of crap in the lot, poop smeared on the toilet, pee on the walls... if you can't deal with some of these steering-wheel-holding apes and their sloppy mess and pig-like attitude, then its time to move on.

You got people saying i don't park at a truck stop with out buying something, pay to park pay for this pay for that. Truckers are grilled to the pavement by people wanting their money . Look it's not our choice we have to park that rig to sleep somewhere that is designed for trucks , hell if it was legal I'd sleep on the shoulder of the #### road. I cook my food and stay out of the truck stops accept for fuel . I could careless if a mom and pop truck stop runs out of business all I needed from them was the parking lot and no I won't go in and spend a couple dollars here and there on #### I don't need . I'll just stay at the rest stop.

So I decided to try it out here at a truck stop in Florida. I saw 1 black guy hustling hard. I left a $1.25 on the counter. When I walked out I saw another guy... both in a hurry to clean the bathrooms as it is 7:30 p.m. and truckers are coming in to take showers. I slowly walked away and as I was looking over my shoulder, one of them just stared at the money from the threshold, in disbelief. The other guy walked in from behind and they were probably asking eachother questions... so I'm guessing this tipping business rarely happens.

If I go into a shower and I see the person cleaning ####### to elbows and I see that they actually did a good job even if they were very busy. I leave a 5 spot. Sometimes during the holidays or the Lord just leads me to I’ll drop a 20. I never put it on the counter. I hand it to them surreptitiously, look them in the eye and thank them.

I appreciate what you do. But I am an owner operator, and I don't fuel up at the big truck stops, as there fuel is too expensive. Even if I were to get a discount fuel card, I am still saving more as I pay cash and fuel at smaller fuel stops, and save .40 to .50 per gallon. Anyway, the truck stop is already charging me $14 for a shower.
