Technically I am employed. I have an employee number and have gone through orientation, or as some call it, "on-boarding" at a mega carrier's terminal and am ready to go ... but now it's 'hurry up and wait' time. Are trainers in short supply? It seems like they are ... Does anyone have an idea of how long this wait could last? I was asked about my smoking status (am a non-smoker) but I didn't say I must get a non-smoker or a man/woman ... What can some of you old times advise me to do, if anything at all?
Trainers don't grow on trees ... Orientation was done days ago.

Be patient, someone will get to you.
If you have been hired and have a number, they will want to get you driving as soon as possible.
You both need and want the money.tscottme, Lonesome, Liahos and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well if you were thinking about taking up smoking maybe now would be a good time to start lol.
But really if you are a non smoker ( as I am) I think you would be Miserable stuffed in tight quarters for days with someone who smokes.
It’s probably best you just wait it out.
You will be much happier in the end. -
Bribery....

You just gotta be patient and wait - I waited several days, maybe a week for mine to show up.
Something i learned was, everything takes a long time. Everything. The only thing that happens fast is something bad - Good Luckronjeremyjr, tscottme, kemosabi49 and 4 others Thank this. -
It's not uncommon for guys to wait 2-3 weeks for a trainer... When I got licensed many years ago my "Roommate" at the company hotel had been waiting nearly a month for a trainer...
4mer trucker, Liahos and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
I'm wondering if trainers are becoming a short supply.
My company has often asked me to become one, but I won't.
The risk is too great, and I really don't want someone else in my truck unless it is just a daughter riding along. And even that won't last very long with me.
Rather like teaming, they try to entice us with the money aspect.
But it really isn't that much more money, and the risks involved with either one outweigh the money aspect - in my opinion.
Not to mention the privacy issue, or just choosing how one runs the loads.FerrissWheel, Western flyer, gentleroger and 6 others Thank this. -
Are you still at home... waiting? Ask them to pay you layover. IDK if that's a thing, but since you ARE an employee. . . . worth a try?!?!?tscottme, Liahos and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
Pay while waiting.
I get paid $75 per day if I am waiting for a load.
It is reasonable to expect the same kind of pay if you are hired and waiting for your trainer.FerrissWheel, G13Tomcat and Liahos Thank this.
