Looking for any information about leasing on with Admiral Merchants. Ill be pulling a tri axle stepdeck. How much experience do they require you to have with open deck? How much hometime can I expect? I'm out of north central Ohio. What lanes can I run from Ohio? Realistic weekly gross? Do they keep you busy or do they have slow periods?
    Any info is greatly appreciated.

We are with Admiral Merchants and love them. We have a 53’ stepdeck and we did do some RGN as well. You can load off from any load board or theirs. The percentage changes depending what you choose and can be profitable if you know what you’re doing. If we use any load board and book our own freight they take 17% and we get 83%. If you book from their load board they take 25% and you get 75%. They let you operate as a true owner operator. You choose when you’re going home and how long and when you want to run and where and what loads. You call the agent on their load board for the load you want or call the broker on the other load boards for what you want. If you use another load board such as DAT, you have to call Admiral’s credit department and give brokers MC number to make sure they have credit available. Usually works out most of the time. We have done very well here. It’s all on you and they are supportive and knowledgeable to help you succeed because they know if you succeed then they do too. Great people there who care about you. Attitude is everything no matter if it’s with Admiral, an agent, or a broker.

You can run whatever lanes you want. It’s truly your business with them. I can’t remember how much experience they require, but call and ask for Bonnie. She will let you know everything you need. The great thing too about orientation was done online, so it was convenient. They will mail you everything you need and only took a day or two to get. The fuel discounts are great. We signed up for fuel book through admiral and it is a deduction, but it shows you Admiral’s fuel price and the difference. It’s great. I think it’s like $5/month deduction. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Do you need your own trailer or can you lease one ? Do they seem to have more step or flatbed?

Sounds like a good place to be. How much freight do they have around Ohio? I don't hardly have any open deck experience but was hoping they would have some kind of training I could go through. I've been pulling an end dump for 5 years and looking to make a change. Do they mostly do long haul or do they have alot of regional work to where I can get home a couple times a week? Thanks for the detailed response! If anybody else has any more info I'd love to hear from you.

They mostly have flatbeds and some stepdeck a last I knew. You can rent a trailer from them or bring your own. Where you load and what loads you get depend on what’s available on the load boards. Like I said you can use any loadboard. I use DAT and Truckstop both. Usually there is pretty good freight in and around Ohio. With Admiral you’re on your own with their support if that makes sense. I go awhile without talking to them and just run where and when I want. (Meeting customer expectations of course). You have complete autonomy here. You need to be able to negotiate with brokers and customers on rates sometimes too. Don’t be afraid to ask! They don’t have training other than orientation videos. We used to haul cars before this so we had some idea. But we learned as we went and researched and watched videos. They do prefer experience, but they hired us without it. Best of luck!

Does Admiral Merchants give their lease operators login info for the load boards or do the operators have to pay for it on their own?
