I've been driving for just about 2 years close to 3 in the industry so far but never had the chance to learn stick shift aside from the cdl school. Its all been automatic and really have had the urge as of late to learn manual. I really want to go owner operator asap and knowing manual i feel is something that should be known im also all for learning any other freight hauling outside of dry van during this time as well.. My records been clean and I do run hard. I'm the kind of guy who just wants to works my ### off in these early years and invest to make a passive income and be done with work all together asap. This job opens up an ungodly amount of opportunities. But experience seems to be one of the things needed first. 2 years isn't enough and 0 years in the O/O field. I'm 24 years old male. If you don't shower every day or other day. I'm sorry we can't team lol. I prefer night shifts as well. I don't smoke. But I grew up in the fishing Industry so no biggie if you smoke. I do enjoy good healthy debates where emotions aren't involved. So do be warned if you get emotional with debates. I also have all endorsement including TWIC. Tankers, double, hazmat etc- if the money is there on top of us getting along would be willing to do more then a month as well!
I'm looking for a 1 month or so team position to learn stickshift

I bet there is a line of owner operators already to team up with you ...for the whole month ...to gain your stories about fishing and healthy eating !
Just imagine well experienced owner operator driving perfectly tuned truck looking for you to estimate his chances of getting his truck wrecked in the ditch or messing with his 13-18speed transmission to help you in life in exchange for your rules and funny life stories !Last edited: May 23, 2020

Shifting manual has some little tricks you can learn. The first one is when in low range shift at 800-1000 RPMs you do this because you don't have to match the gears and you don't need 500HP to get rolling. So you will shift like 5-6 gears just to get thru a stop light or stop sign.
Then for high range you bring the RPMs up to 1600 RPMs and shift. You do this because their is generally 400 RPM step between gears. So if you shift at 1600 RPMs. The next gear will be at 1200 RPMs. That important because that were most diesel engine have the most pulling power. So when it goes in gear you will have basically the most pulling power available. Then you put the pedal to the floor because you want the 500HP but you really want all the tourqe the engine has and that the pulling power you need to keep going.
Then you basically reverse when down shifting you let the RPMs drop to 1200 and raise the RPMs to 1600 it should go in gear. Most people don't explain the 400 RPM step between gears. Say you shift 1400 RPMs then it should go into the next gear at 1800 RPMs.
But when pulling hill 1000-1200 is most tourqe. So you give a little time for the turbo to spin back up and the engine to start pulling. So you plan on 1200 RPMs as you pulling point. So you bring the RPMs up to 1600 it should go in gear at 1200 and you keep pulling.Selva, DeathByCheetos and G13Tomcat Thank this.
