    I’m a little confused and want to make sure I get it right. Delivering a Express Van to Alabama. Not my usual truck I deliver. The van is a one ton and has a DOT # assigned to it. No weight issues that I can see but it is considered commercial. Do I have to go through weigh stations? I do when I run the trucks just not sure with the van. Thanks for any information.

    Everything I’ve read have said 10,000 lbs. or more. Is it because I have a DOT#?

    ANYTHING that has a DOT number MUST go into scales if they are open, even if they are a "not for hire" and only deliver/pick up own products. Anytime a DOT number is issued, it becomes a commercial ride.

    You have to go in for that, and they will chase you if you don’t.

    Not all states require a vehicle with a DOT# to enter a scale. Some adhere to the 10K and over limit. Now, I read, Nebraska requires ALL vehicles with a DOT # to enter. When I moved to Colorado, I had the smallest Uhaul, nowhere near 10g's, and I had to enter the Neb. weigh station, that never closes, btw. If I were you in a plain van, I wouldn't bother.

    It is lettered so I guess it’s best just to go in. Probably will be waved through but better to take the time and avoid any problems.

    Anything registered commercially must enter, even those little parts delivery priuses are supposed to go through

    It isn't just weight. The vehicle has to pass an inspection, if they pull you in for one.
    Likely they won't inspect you if you go through unless they see something obvious.

    But if you run it and they chase you down, you will be inspected to the highest level.

    And to think I can remember when they only wanted to look at semi's, and the scales were closed more than they were open...
