I grew up on the road parents are owner operators and recently lost my job due to Covid, we decided to go the over the road route as our kids are grown. I'm not a licensed driver but I know how to operate a rig and back properly. Don't want to get stuck having to spend 6-8 weeks on road with company otr trainer. Any information on a shorter way? Ready to roll out into our future

Which state do you live in?
It's next to impossible to avoid a training period these days because of insurance regulations.

Wilson Logistics is one of the better ones because most of their training is on the road vs. sitting in a classroom. The wife can ride along after you're assigned your own truck.
Wilson has two schools and provides meals and lodging. The schools are in Springfield, MO and Missoula, Montana. You have a choice of riding a bus or flying to the school.
I think classroom is one week, then on the road with a trainer for maybe 2 or 3 weeks. You'll have to ask about that to be sure.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely be doing my homework on who best fits our lives. I live in Illinois and I'm most likely going to take the CDL permit test thru DMV. Does that put me ahead of the group? I attended a program for a day before blood pressure and heart issue sent me home. Got cleared up already and don't want to get stuck in a group of cab drivers like before.
