Hellow everyone,
I have a small delima I need to sort out. I am looking to spec out a new rig and trailer I'm gonna start with the trailer as I already have a truck that it's paid off. I primarily do Flat bed and I am going to start dabbling in oversized and heavy
I was thinking a Tri axle step deck would be the best place to start as I can raise one of the axles and basically have a standard step deck.
I would mainly stick to normal loads but I want the option to do oversized / heavy. Long way around but what trailer is best to be able to do sub 80k loads efficient as possible and have the capability to put 65k on the deck bringing me to about 95(ish)k gross.
Next question my current truck is 14l Detroit 515hp 1650 torque with direct 10 and 3.55 rear. How heavy can I go on my current rig with out dropping the guts out of it when I try to pull a hill.
Finally for though how would indulge me. My next rig i would spec to see me pulling more heavy stuff then sub 80k. So what is the key points to keep in mind when specing a truck to do well in normal loads and not die on heavy say sub 100k gross. Not to worried about actually specs on this as its next years problem.
Finally final, is there a point to sticking sub 100k gross or if I go heave just spec full bore 120k plus just incase a load like that comes around my logic is I will be paying cash this fall for the trailer got about 70k set aside for it. So I do not see a point in specing a truck over what the trailer can haul.
Long winded I know but thank you all for any advice you can offer.

Are you sure about ten direct and 355. I think it probably a overdrive,!also 1650 little bit low for. Heavy hauling,, best of luck to you in all your adventures keep us posted,

Just my opinion,but I would get triple with dove tail. Better for Oversize Equ such as farm machinery and military.

Tri axle Kalyn or tri axle Landoll. I like slide axles for general hauling. Idk where you are and how wide your legal to be. I’m a 10 wide junky myself

Not saying the triple wouldn't be better, & easier to load. But my spread is good for 90k gross, 80k distributed, 60k in 10'. Not sure on the actual tare weight, but it's about 10,400lbs with 2 60" boxes full of gear, 2 8' drops, & about 500lbs of ramps & stands..
My old wagon had a dovetail with flip over ramps, & boy did I miss them today. Thought i was going to melt in the Everglades humidity setting up the 6 piece ramp kit for the 2nd time in 3 hours..
I can load lower ground clearance now with 16' of ramp, vs. about 10' with the dovetail variety. Everything has a tradeoff..

The triple will actually save you money on tires when your running on hot pavement and 90k!!

One thing I don't like is I'm guessing the hendrickson suspension is only rated for 20k per axle.? It has 23k axles, & 22,700lb worth of rubber per axle. Be nice if the axle were stickered for 22,500-22,700lbs as to take advantage of that when hauling over 80k gross. I looked at the tag on an aluminum Doonan Chaparral II triple, similar to mine. I believe it was 110k lb gross, 70k lbs in 10' or more..
It's an aluminum frame Doonan, short 8' upper, 40'5" lower. The gooseneck transition is steel. 17.5" tires, 36.5" at the arc, bout 34.5" closer to step, or tail. Apitong deck. I would have got chain pulls had I spec'd it, but I bought it off a lot. Has J plates, & can locks for 2 20's, or a 40'..
